The issue is that these models can't account for LBJ coasting. Not that it matters much this year.

Watching his deliberate playoffs apotheosis is easily my favorite things in sports several years running. Makes me feel invincible.

In retrospect it's likely a blessing that LeBron didn't finish that dunk on Draymond at the end because it leaves room for a series to possibly be more perfect. Now there's something to look forward to.

Pau (maybe 2nd best Euro in the NBA ever, key player in multiple title teams), Parker (finals MVP), and Ginobili (key player in multiple title teams, MVP in 2 different leagues, won a gold medal on a team that isn't Team USA) have had better international and NBA careers than Aldridge. Ginobili would have been an all star more times if he didn't accept a 6th man role. I'd rather have Prime Ginobili on my team than Prime LMA. Aldridge is a better player now but the point is that team is still stacked and the Thunder aren't anywhere near the depth level. Then you factor in Pop.

That's where I would disagree with you. All four of those guys have remarkably similar NBA numbers. Aldridge has just never been on a championship level team til now. Don't get me wrong, I definitely think Manu Tony and Pau are great players, well deserving of HoF induction, and were underrated during their primes, but so is Aldridge.

Looking at their top line numbers (which is what HoF voters look at after ringzzz), a PG with career avgs of 16ppg and less than 6apg, a SG with 13.5ppg and less than 4rpg and apg, and a PF/C averaging less than 18ppg and 9.5rpg, those aren't exactly guaranteed first ballot hall of fame numbers. Without the good fortune to be teammates with Duncan or prime Kobe and winning rings with them, all three of them are guys who are likely to be overlooked for a few years after they retire. Aldridge hasn't yet gotten old and had his numbers dragged down a bit, but he'll end up his career with very similar numbers to Pau I think.

And to whomever said it's lazy to reference their international careers just because they're international players - well, the first counter argument to my point was bringing up their international play, so maybe it's not really that lazy?

Damn, this is good coffee.
So, I think it's pretty obvious that neither the Rockets nor Spurs will get past the Warriors next round. But can you make a roster from both teams that would reasonably considered favorites, or at least at parity? My thoughts:

Starters:
Harden
Kawhi
Green
Beverley
Aldridge

Bench:
Gordon
Williams
Mills
Capela
Nene
???
???

Thoughts?

it wouldn't really work because they're constructed to play completely different styles on offense. LMA might as well be the anti Rockets player.

Revelry in the Dark

Harden and Kawhi would be a dangerous pair at guard and forward, and at the very least would push a seven game series. I was thinking there would be no place to hide Curry on defense, but then I remembered KD had a good defensive season which just speaks to how unfair the Warriors are

David Lee was put in over Gasol because of defensive limitations. Gasol is unplayable if the big can remotely shoot.

The importance of this mission cannot be overemphasized
Add Kawhi and Danny Green to the Rockets and I think they'd have somewhat of a chance, though GSW would still be favoured over 7 games.
