the42ndtourist posted:The Sens are actually in basically the same spot. Boucher has half of a decent D group, and some younger better guys, and continues to dress and play the 'veteran' garbage. Ceci may be even more useless than Girardi and he plays more than anyone other than Karlsson. Ceci and Phaneuf draw the shutdown duties despite being one of the worst pairs in the league all drat season by almost every metric, fancy or old school. They bleed goals against any and all competition. Wideman has had their best possession numbers all year but is now scratched. Yeah that was weird and seems to be AV panicking for some reason. He's had no problem playing the fourth line or those defensemen quite a bit all season long but suddenly he's shortening his bench and worried about one of his best role performers (Lindberg)? I dunno. I don't get why some coaches haven't realized that the goal of playing defense should be to take the puck away from the other team, not just be like trying to stop high quality scoring chances against. It's the whole "but they're so good and realiable without the puck defensively!" but they spend sooooo much time defending it doesnt' matter how good they are. And in Staal and HOlden's case they haven't been good defending without the puck either!

if crosby isn't able to come back, this will become a significantly less stressful playoffs as i will no longer have any expectations otoh pens almost beat the caps with 10 forwards, so maybe there's hope

Caps overtime play has gotten much better as the playoffs have gone on.

loving lmao Rob Rossi claiming that the Capitals' players only meeting was about injuring Crosby: http://rbl.ms/2pzGUmI quote:Makes you wonder what that closed-door meeting called by Capitals players was really about after their blowout defeat in Game 2, huh? Also if Niskanen gets suspended I think I'll lose my poo poo. But knowing the DOPS they'll make the worst decision possible.

Because at worst it was a 5 and a game which he already got. Anything more is completely taking intent out of the picture and just punishing him because it was Sidney Crosby. It was an awkward play with an unfortunate outcome, not an intent to injure.

Yeah, 99 times out of 100 a player doing what Niskanen did with his stick in that play results in a big ol' nothing. Still hope the Capitals lose miserably forever.

Somebody post the grainiest gif of the crosscheck so people can freeze frame it depending on which side of the argument they want to take and we can all argue about it for another 35 pages Edit: speaking of gifs, does anyone have one of that sequence where Hornqvist did or did not sweep the puck out of the crease with his hand?

Niskanin was gonna cross check Crosby, but lets call a fuckin spade, a spade. He was gonna hit him with one of those ones in the upper or small of the back that dudes get cause they're close to the crease. That happens all night long. Don't be disingenuous and suggest that he was anticipating Crosby to fall after being tripped and catch him at that precise moment. It was an unfortunate circumstance that resulted in an injury to the Pens most important player. It probably didn't warrant the 5 and a game it got but that is what happens when you punish outcome instead of intent. (Punishing results and not behaviors is a completely other can of fuckin worms.) We can all chill and enjoy this really good rear end hockey series without being pedantic dicks.
