Millennials "on average" aren't particularly open minded or brilliant or anything SA is just a pretty negative, repetitive place regardless of the politics, YOSPOS falls into a pattern of the same handful of people saying "Javascript sucks" SA is a case study for how poor management and cultural rot can slowly ruin a community

The only sites that might rival the forums are Steve balmers new USAfacts.org or the metal slug website. Stileproject and wtfman.com are also top contenders

reddit is basically just a forums hosting site, they make their money off ads and premium accounts which gives them an incentive to keep lovely but popular boards around even when they spend the majority of their time harassing/stalking other users and gaming site rankings (like /r/thedonald) or going "IM NOT TOUCHING YOU!" to leo (/r/jailbait). that doesn't mean there's not a huge variety of posters or opinions or opposition to the sites lovely moderation and y'all over her pearl clutching sounds as stupid as it did when your parents were whining to each other 15 years ago about "that terrible site kids post on where people post a picture of a man's anus FOR FUN"

Chronological you can get just by clicking "sorted by: old". Turning replies into single-level quote blocks is impractical because you can't tell what portions of the prior post should be copied into a quote block (you could copy everything but that would likely bloat the process).

the incessant subredditing has benefits tho. like if u wanted earth porn, but a specific kind of earth porn, reddit has u in luck. or speicific kinds of porn just stay out of the comments

I know at least some people use greasemonkey scripts or whatever to draw lines highlighting the hierarchy and there may be subreddit specific css to do it as well but I agree it is trash once you get past just like one or two levels

my fetish is comment threads that indent endlessly until each line of each reply contains a single word, then, eventually a single character on a 4k screen

i understand it, it's just terrible and not really conducive to open discussions still better than old cgi message boards where each response was a whole page you had to load on your 56k modem and god forbid someone not put an (nt) at the end of their no text response Endless Mike fucked around with this message at 21:59 on May 2, 2017 |
