Yeah

But I just looked it up, mortar fuzes need the acceleration from the charge firing, airflow concurrent to the speed of a shell in flight through the fuze and the general flightpath of a shell in flight before arming. This differs from a howitzer fuze which uses rotational count before arming.

Oh yeah, the moron gun det commander I had who tried unloading a 105 round using a cam-pole because he was too lazy to unpack the unloader didn't really run the risk of detonating the round by smashing a piece of wood against the fuze tip...he was just loving stupid as gently caress.

It never ceases to amaze me that the world's militaries actually manage to field units that aren't decimated on a daily basis by incompetence related mishaps.

Now I'm curious what percent of stuff like design, engineering, man power and overall resources goes into not letting your own military members kill themselves through incompetence instead of the enemy. For training exercises it sure felt North of 50%.

That used to really work, although they've been private proofed since. MOH citation for Beauford T. Anderson:

quote:

He displayed conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity above and beyond the call of duty. When a powerfully conducted predawn Japanese counterattack struck his unit's flank, he ordered his men to take cover in an old tomb, and then, armed only with a carbine, faced the onslaught alone. After emptying 1 magazine at pointblank range into the screaming attackers, he seized an enemy mortar dud and threw it back among the charging Japs, killing several as it burst. Securing a box of mortar shells, he extracted the safety pins, banged the bases upon a rock to arm them and proceeded alternately to hurl shells and fire his piece among the fanatical foe, finally forcing them to withdraw. Despite the protests of his comrades, and bleeding profusely from a severe shrapnel wound, he made his way to his company commander to report the action. T/Sgt. Anderson's intrepid conduct in the face of overwhelming odds accounted for 25 enemy killed and several machineguns and knee mortars destroyed, thus single-handedly removing a serious threat to the company's flank.

It also goes along with what Comey said today, how he's working with TWO separate attorneys offices in the DOJ.

Yeah if it was just Louise Mensch saying something, I'd ignore it because she's made so many of those "INDICTMENTS ARE COMING, ANY DAY NOW!" claims it's white noise at this point.

Multiple GOP aides say that they're going to vote on the AHCA tomorrow.

Aside from all the poo poo that the bill does bad, and their own rules that they're violating, it's going to be a VERY interesting vote, given that here's where the numbers are:

https://twitter.com/MEPFuller/status/859906178607919104

22-23 no votes kills the bill (depending on who you listen to). Still likely dead or heavily modified in the Senate.

With the new the electronic timed ones, I think they've phased out the mechanical time poo poo by now save for the VT stuff. PD/SQ still works that way though.

Before we even get into other countries, their people and culture our active duty units spend more time, ammo and money in training than a lot of other countries even get to spend at war/internal suppression. I mean poo poo, Guard units will use more ammunition in a drill weekend than Chinese troops use in their entire career. I'm not sure how much of it is strong national identity vs budget though. I've seen people who try to pull the "I'll be the only one who knows so they can't get rid of me" poo poo get hosed for it.
