Cartoon Man posted:Sit Crosby for game 5, no need to rush him back. The Caps are perfectly capable of beating themselves without the Pens best player. That's how I see it- there are up to three games left in the series and Washington needs them all. Rest Sid unless it's necessary to bring him back.

There is no way he's playing in game 5 I'm sure before they head to DC they'll say he skated today and he'll continue to be monitored and there is no timetable for his return

Fleury shooting that puck at Grubauer and then taping over Niskanen on his mask made me like him even more, thank god for crazy goalies

He's probably gonna skate and see if there's symptoms from that and if that goes well the next step would be contact in practice. But game 5 is highly unlikely. Game 6 (if there is one ) at the earliest

Did Fleury like, pick old teammates at random to put on there or what. Can't figure out anything else they have in common

They're also mostly underappreciated journeymen types or were older guys when they were teammates. I figure it's a 'props to the lesser lights' thing. I'm looking forward to the Caps losing to the Pens in 6 games in the second round every year for the next five years. Psych! I'm not looking forward to that at all! Hahaha! Got you, idiot!

I wonder how cheap tickets to Game 5 will be. They start at $99 right now, which seems like a lot of money to pay to be mad in public.

xzzy posted:I feel like this exact post was made around this time last year. Did you C&P it from an old thread? It probably was, to be honest. Anyway my logic is that Oshie, Williams, Kuznetsov, Alzner, Shattenkirk, and Burakovsky all need new deals this summer, in addition to a good amount of their depth/role players like Winnik, Connolly, Orlov, Shmidt, and Grubauer. They'll have 22 million in cap space, maybe a bit more if the cap increases at all, but not enough to keep everyone (not that they even should). They're getting older, the prospect stable isn't great since they've been good for so long, and they can't afford to keep everyone anymore. They're still going to be a good team for a while, obviously, but I think this year is basically as good as the roster can possibly be.

Oshie's gonna get hella overpaid by a GM who thinks shooting percentage is too fancy of a stat for him.

Yeah I'd love to keep him — dude is great on both ends of the ice — but he is going to get so much money, it won't be worth it. Schmidt or Gruby will be going to Vegas. And I think they'll for sure lock up Orlov, Kuzy, and Bura. Beyond that, who knows. They definitely won't be as good, and I can't imagine who they could add that would improve on this year's roster.

Glad Fleury kept the tribute on his mask to Matt Cooke. They were great friends on the Pens together when Cooke would fly around the ice and regularly concuss people on purpose.

Yeah Kuznetsov, Orlov, and Burakovsky should be kept for sure. Echoing that I'd really like Oshie to stay but he'll probably be too expensive.

I don't know if it matters, but Matt Cooke made a genuine effort to be less of a poo poo bag near the end of his time with Pittsburgh. I know that doesn't make up for the long reign of Lefty and Righty, which is what I assume he refers to his elbows as. If you want a recalcitrant douchebag, I think James Neal is still playing.

Depending on how far the Capitals are willing to go I think there is a strong argument in favor of trading John Carlson and protecting Nate Schmidt. Niskanen's already a better player than Carlson and Carlson is a UFA in 2018, plus Orlov and Schmidt combined will likely be cheaper than Carlson and are already arguably better than him and can still improve. Are the Capitals really ready to pay Carlson $7 million+ a year for like 7 years as a second pairing dude when he actually seems to be regressing? Like if loving Troy Brouwer and some spare parts can get TJ Oshie then I have to imagine John Carlson could get the moon in a trade from some dumb GM. The Capitals desperately need some good young forwards and I'd be willing to entertain a Carlson trade to get that done.

Claesson for Wideman is basically a coin filp because they're both capable of really boneheaded decisions. I like Smith, I hope Pyatt can play and I hope Neil gets stuck in traffic.
