My wife is an administrator at a super exclusive obnoxious private school. The hallways of said school are lined with cubby/locker things for each student. Each cubby has the name of the student above it. Walking down the hallways of said school saying these names aloud is one of my favorite things, especially if done in the presence of my wife. Kayleetee Brydin Nils Felix Macks Mcteighleigh Declan Declan Declan Oak Declan Elivia ...and so on. That draft list is actually pretty obsolete when it comes to stupid names, if you want to be really amused you need to see a class list from a preschool.

Sounds like Ryan Spooner is probably gonna get traded, and the most likely destinations are Vancouver, Vegas, or New Jersey. He'd be a good fit on any of those teams I think, but hopefully Sweeney trades him to Vancouver because he has the best chance of ripping them off.

My 4 year old kid is in a class with 20 other kids. Here are some of the names off the top of my head: Jayden x2 Kayden x2 Aiden Braden Grady Owen Oliver Xavier Other than Grady and one of the Kaydens these are all Asian kids. I barf in my mouth every time I see these names on the sign in sheet. LIke who is going to be the bully in this group? These are all names of kids who get beat up, not of kids who administer beatings.

People's names actually have meaning and historical context which create a shared culture. Then you get a generation that traded culture for empty consumerism giving their children made up bullshit names because of their own narcissism. They're also all really singsongy and twee. It's not just different, it's different for a lovely reason.

Personal names have always been arbitrary and thinking any are worth preserving is a waste of time. Names are a function of culture at a specific time and not some sort of sacred label. It's why your parents didn't probably name you Ernie, Chip, Gladys, or Elanor despite them being common during your grandparent's age. I don't care if a kid's name is spelled Krz in place of Cruise as long as the kid I say Cruise to responds. If he wants to change it's spelling in the future is his prerogative. If it's a clerical thing to worry about, that's what copy/paste is for.
