MGM was always a pretty straight 10 large min. I generally just wire in advance, as opposed to credit, which is very doable with bigger places. I don't understand how you could use it somewhere else, short of drawing and then cashing out. Which seems like a dick move.

A marker is a line of credit (actually I think in nevada it might be processed more like cashing a check, with the processing on their part delayed, which is even less of a favor to you). Either way I don't see how its really a dick move. The casinos would like you to *think* its a dick move and stay in their spot, but whatever. If you don't want to cash in some chips to hit a new place, you used to be able to exchange foreign chips without much fuss, I dunno if that has changed recently. Go to the cage if you are trying to do a significant amount. I don't think you have to have a story or anything, but you can always say you came over for dinner and you decided you want to play here for a bit, can you switch chips? I think you tend to get better host recognition with a marker as opposed to wiring in cash, maybe because they feel you're more likely to get sucked in. They usually forward me to a host as soon as they get the information to set up or refresh the line. But if you're playing those limits, I don't think you're going to have any issues anyways. A hand of baccarat should be comped better than blackjack right? Maybe its often a bit slower game, but the edge is worse. 500/hand should get you some nice comps even at an MGM property!

Tickets bought (Southwest direct!), hotel reserved (Wynn package with "complimentary room upgrade"), and overpaid for David Guetta at EBC but excited! Are there any draw backs to the Day Club crawls? Specifically https://www.groupon.com/deals/turnt-up-tours-2 Definitely going to try the $20 trick and will report back.

Heading to Vegas at the end of the month with about sixteen other people, staying at the Flamingo. We're wanting to see Absinthe while there as I've heard nothing but good things -- should I definitely buy these tickets in advance or might I reasonably expect to get tickets the day of at one of the half price booths or box office? As for food, probably going to try to head to Lotus of Siam at some point. Beyond that, I'm looking for restaurant recommendations at the $50/head price range. Any pointers? Going with a crowd who've frequented Vegas many times, though none have been in the past ~3 years. What's new that we shouldn't miss this trip? We're all around 30 and basically up for anything be it gambling, drinking, clubs, shows, sights, whatnot. Conversely, what's new that we shouldn't get sucked into because it's overrated, a rip-off, or just bad?

xaarman posted:Again, how disappointing. There were some on the "these are some of the dayclubs we've gone to recently!" list that weren't terrible, but they were in the minority. And also likely not the clubs they go to on a regular basis. Although I went to Yelp expecting to see some amusingly bad reviews for "Turnt Up Tours" but they actually seem mostly positive, so who knows? I have to admit I've always wondered if the pool/dayclub associated with the Sapphire strip club is as awful as I imagine it being since that's apparently one of their options.

Just got back from a 4-night trip from western Canada to Vegas from Sunday - Thursday. The crazy wind storm on Thursday delayed our flight home but otherwise we had a great time. We stayed at the Signature per this thread's recommendation. We probably saved $30+/day on food and beer just by having the little kitchenette with a fridge. $20 got us an upgrade from a low-floor to a penthouse room with a strip view on the 37th floor. A highlight was the Neon Museum, just a little north of Fremont Street. We did a nighttime tour and it was really interesting to see the old signs and we learned a lot about Vegas history. I found Fremont Street itself kind of underwhelming, but the best meal we had was at the BBQ place in the Container Park just east of the Fremont Street Experience. We got Absinthe tickets for a Wednesday 10pm show at one of the Tix-For-Tonight booths on the day of the show. They were just under $100 for tickets that would usually cost $120-ish. I imagine it would be harder to get tickets on Thursday-Sunday when the weekend crowd is around.

Trip report! OK, so I'm back from 5 nights at the cosmo in a wraparound terrace suite. Tried the 20$ trick at check-in, not sure what that got me -- wasn't a room upgrade because we didn't have a view of the Bellagio fountains. Maybe they waived some resort fees? I still see a 40$/day charge for wifi on my check-out bill. Checked in on a Tuesday evening, wasn't too terribly busy, but there still was a line. Dinner at L'Atlier at MGM was out of this world. Did a 6-course tasting menu (without wine) for two, and ended up spending ~500$ with tip. Worth every penny. That was the meal of a lifetime, and the service was impeccable. Thanks for the recommendation Jay! I played a decent amount of craps while I was there. The cosmo only has 10$ tables until about 11am and then they go to 15$ until about 3pm, then they go to 25$. Aria always had 10$ tables and was right next door. Also saw 5$ tables at Caesar's. Dealers at the Cosmo were not very friendly/nice. And one Dealer, Tim, was downright rude. Basically, any other casino had better dealers, at least for craps tables. We also ate at RM seafood at Mandalay Bay -- did a 3 course pre fixe lunch special for 28$/person. Was absolutely excellent. Highly recommended. Also ate at the Herringbone at Aria, my crab cake there wasn't very good...it had like lays potato chips on it. But my wife got the buffalo squid, and that was spectacular. Eggslut at the cosmo for breakfast when hungover was amazing, you have to try the Slut there. We saw Britney at PH at my wife's behest. I wasn't impressed, but she loves "the Queen of Pop" so whatever. I want my 300$ back, but if she's happy, whatever. Also did Shark Reef at Mandalay (waste of $, was not impressed) and then bodies and titanic at Luxor. Titanic was kinda cool, but Bodies wasn't very special. Wife and I were both hard science majors, so we've seen all of that before. The forum shops at Caesar's was pretty cool, definitely worth a few hours in an afternoon or evening to check that out. The conservatory at the Bellagio at night was pretty impressive. Also had tickets to XS to see David Guetta, but ended up just not going. My wife is a wuss and doesn't tolerate heels very well so there was no way she was gonna be able to stand for 4 hours. All in all, a pretty great trip! I wouldn't do more than 5 nights, though. We were pretty beat by Friday afternoon and we arrived Tuesday evening. I'm not sure if we were trying to do too much, or what.

Chef is leaving the restaurant to open up the Waldorf Astoria in LA this week so you got to have one of his last meals there. Hope you were able to sit at the counter. I feel like that's a syndrome of a lot of vacations. People try to take it all in and forget to relax. I, however, am a lazy piece of poo poo on vacation. Next time you're back take a day to just relax by the pool, hit a spa, and have room service in bed. You'll feel refreshed.

I've never done this $20 business so I wouldn't know either way. Really I think I wanted to bitch about the room service prices at the Wynn, dear lord.

Just back in. Brief trip report. Lotus of Siam, still delicious. Get a reservation. The soon to be new owner of Oak and Ivy knows what he's doing with cocktails. Container Park is not cool at all, but he's a great host and bartender, same with the other dudes. Beatles LOVE is good. Worth the $100. Ellis Island seems to be the only place anywhere near the strip with $5 craps minimums. $10 seems to be the new $5 everywhere else actually on the Strip. Dealers were friendly as hell. Beers brewed in house still delicious, still $2.25 at the bar. Sushi Roku, delicious. Monday night DJ at Marquee was lol bad. Top 40 and garbage top 40 90s music, and like talking over choruses and doing shout outs over his own drops and poo poo, and would completely cut the music to say some nonsense. Saturday there was fun at least. Ally McBeal Wiki fucked around with this message at 04:26 on Apr 12, 2017 |

fordan posted:Sorry for the late reply... Pre-sale tickets were mentioned, but at a number of the clubs the pre-sale and GA lines are the same, at least until you get to the cash registers. Getting in quickly is going to be more a factor of showing up early before the club fills up and the line slows to a crawl. Another option is to arrange a "handshake" entry with a club host where you tip to bypass the line. You may also be able to find 1-bottle tables on non-weekend days, although that's still going to be $600+. Most of the actual guest lists I know of are for hot girls (especially in groups) that are getting free entry and sometimes at least an hour of open bar to show up relatively early and get the party going. Bought vouchers to Omnia on a Tuesday night, got right in and had a pretty much optimal Big Dumb Vegas Club experience. The view over the strip was nice, with a big enough crowd to get a good dance floor going but not enough to get that oh god I can't move in this club feeling. The video setup and orbital chandelier thing were pretty cool, plus it shot compressed air instead of fire, which was a nice bonus. Other random stuff: Raku was really excellent and worth going to. Fremont Street had a charmingly skeezy feel to it, Bouchon is the best place for brunch as always, Penn & Teller are getting a bit of old author syndrome, Zombie Burlesque was pretty fun, MGM Signature is a wise choice, and the Pinball Museum remains the best entertainment value you will find in the city.

Is it even the $20 trick anymore or should it be upped to $50 to account for inflation? I'll be in town for a conference, staying at the Flamingo, thinking of trying it on checkin.

Flamingo I'd think $20 would work. Couple weeks back I tipped $40 at Palazzo and got an upgrade from a big suite to a huge suite. If it works at all (it sometimes doesn't work for various reasons which you cannot change), $20 of $50 wouldn't particularly matter.

Yeah I doubt there's a difference between $20 and $40. I think it just depends on the mood of whomever checks you in.
