It's a shame the romance stuff was so... present. Because the monster was cool as gently caress and I am so there for what basically amounted to a Samurai Jack episode set in a Metroid game That was otherwise nnnnottttt goooooddddd. Ashi loving sucks and I hate that this is how Samurai Jack seems to be concluding. I really liked the start of the series and up until the escape but after the throwback episode it's just gotten worse and worse.

Having a love interest is something I'm not inherently opposed to, it's a traditional part of these big Conan-y epics, but I don't think that was particularly well done. Maybe it was rushed, maybe this dude just doesn't know how to write romance (although there was that stuff with the robot kid and the cheerleader in Symbionic Titan). In any case, ehhhh.

I mean, I don't have a problem with them being a thing, it's just that it was handled in such a stock and fanservice-y way, and the episode feeling like filler to begin with didn't help it. I am impressed with Genndy's insistence on Jack never being fully clothed for the entirety of an episode though. It's been, what, since Episode 1 of this season that he's managed to stay dressed the entire time?

Like, I get why they did this this way, but there was a much more time-efficient way to do it that wouldn't have cut two incredibly important story beats (Jack confronting Mad Jack/getting his sword back and Ashi confronting her mom) down to a couple minutes each. We're down to two episodes left, here and we have a ton of stuff to wrap up. I dunno that we're gonna get the great climax we want, here.
