I just did Sonic 3 Complete and it was super cool; the game flows much better with Flying Battery between Carnival Night and Ice Cap. Plus, Lava Reef onwards is still one of the best escalations and endings to any video game ever.

Sonic 3 and Knuckles were originally supposed to be one huge game, but were separated due to time constraints. Sonic 3 Complete combines them, adds some fixes and features, and tries to emulate what the devs originally intended. sonic 3 complete is a bugfix for sonic 3 and knuckles. you can get a base version that does simple things like reverts the layout changes to the sonic 3 stages that sonic & knuckles makes, brings back the sonic 3 miniboss boss music on sonic 3 stages, restores the big arms boss to launch base and changes the super sonic music be to the stage music sped up, and much more. there's a bigger version that rearranges the stages to their original intended order before the game was split into two i played through it this week on retroarch on shaders that simulated an old crt tv and it ruled

That all sounds awesome. Omg. Even as a kid a complaint I had about Sonic 3 & Knuckles were the minor changes they made to make it easier. I hope they made the Carnival Night Act 2 barrel even more difficult and obtuse. edit: holy gently caress I found their website and I can customize the version of the game I want for myself

I never got why people prefer Sonic 2's look, it's too similar to Sonic 1 for me. I think Sonic 3 has such a cool, distinct style to it it blew my mind as a kid. Truly felt like something new.

I never liked Sonic 3's sprite change. The smaller pupils are sorta the big thing, but in 1&2&CD he looked more like a cute cartoon character which I preferred over the attempt to make him look "cooler" (even though past that Sonic would just continue on to always try to be cooler anyways).

He looks cooler...it always takes me a long time to beat Sonic 3 & Knuckles because I always go for perfects on the special stages. The only one that's unfair is this one How about the rest of you? Bad enough dude to go for super perfect S ranks in sonic 3 & k? Also who else always press Up to start it right away

Anyone find Sonic 3 Complete a little harder in a couple bits? I'm up to Death Egg and I'm at 28 lives, whereas the last run I did I finished the game with over 50. I noticed they nerfed the casino bonus stage. The best thing about Sonic 3 Complete is how loving awesome it is playing it through the megadrive hub.

It also does shaders that mimic the old game boy dot matrix and the game boy advance lcd screen (with the option of loving up the colours in the same way the gba did). It's fantastic and I much prefer adding in the texture of the old screen types to the emulation as IMO it gives it a much more authentic and watchable feel.

Enabling the composite video filter for sega genesis games is usually as far as I go. Some games look better with the horizontal blur since the pixel art is often designed for it, the Sonic games definitely are. Other than that I prefer things pretty crisp, which Retroarch does a good job with too. I generally integer scale up 4x and then rescale to whatever the display resolution is with a bilinear filter. It helps cover up non-integer scaling artifacts.

I'm coming along in the Sonic 2 & 3 one-input attempts. The current strat is to get Emerald Hill 1 in under 30 seconds to get the continue, get perfects in each easily accessible Angel Island and Hydrocity special stage, and then baby Sonic 2 while tanking hits and kills in 3. I recently found a way to prevent the Chemical Plant 2 water level from rising which has been a huge help. Current best is Oil Ocean 1 and Marble Garden 1, which is well beyond the current TAS attempt. I use glitches to save time and skip stuff, special stages both for continues and to stall for time, but no pause desync. Thanks for reading. VVV I do stream on twitch unscheduled. If I'm ever particularly happy with an attempt I will upload it on my youtube. Most recently I got further than ever in Sonic 2, but was frustrated with Sonic 3 and don't think it's a very watchable run after Hydrocity 2. So, sadly, it's very apparent that Archie has cancelled the Sonic Comic at 290 for many reasons. One that they feel that it doesn't "fit their portfolio" and with books like "Reggie and Me" doing poorly, rather than keep going with, while selling less than usual (maybe due to not shipping it for like half a year and then trying to get shops to pick it up again) the series that is basically their best seller. Hopefully someone like IDW picks it up and the creative team can keep on.

My preferred Genesis/MD emulator is BizHawk for all the bells and whistles it has. It has some audio levels problems IMO but if I want to sperg out about that I'll go King Vidiot's route. e: new Sonic 2&3 PB!
