I posted in there a couple of times while I was a mod. The posters there were convinced I was spying on them for one of the other mods who was looking for reasons to probate them I think .

I had no early idea what they were going on about, but yeah, the thread was just a mess, and I hadn't thought of that in like at least a year.

This is a common mindset and it overlooks an important practical problem: your resume will probably have to get past a screening process before a hiring manager ever sees it and decides if it's good enough to merit an interview. So, depending on the kind of job we're talking about, there is an excellent chance that some HR dope or whatever will throw your resume away for not having an "expected" degree on it before it ever reaches a hiring manger. The guy who wants to hire the position you're trying to get might be cool with people without degrees, but if they never see your resume in the first place it's irrelevant.

That's a huge part of the value of possessing a degree: getting past the moron gatekeepers so you can get a real chance at talking your way into the job.

(This obviously varies a lot depending on the kind of job/industry/etc.)

I don't have a degree and I'm one step closer to a job that finishes every interview with the questions, "would you be willing to take a life in the course of your duty?"

Chapo's good for the comedy, but I've been digging Wide Left podcast for the more spergy wonk side of things (and not just because it's run by Arif Hasan, one of the better Vikings writers on the internet), similar politic leanings but done by a couple of former debate nerds/stats gurus. Less laughs, more analysis, it's unlikely to earn you any friends but you'll feel smarter after listening to them, so that's something.

The sustainability nerd and hippy heart in me really want to like this. Main concerns, how long does it take the biosystem to reach equilibrium?

Seems like 1-3 years but also what does equilibrium actually mean here? Does it change every time humans and/or very good dogs go swimming in it?

There's also claims that because of the circulation/pump action that mosquitos won't make babies in it, but the circulation seems minimal?

I worked with pools for a long time.

Don't do it. Ive come accross 6 in my time and all 6 lead to ear infections and stinking cess pits.

Just build a little plunge pool with a cheap salt chlorinator.
