Wade Belak was a fairly high profile guy. I didn't even know that Montador had retired, much less died, until I'd read about it.

Belak is nowhere close to as big of a star as some of the NFL guys who have had their lives ruined or even ended by CTE, though. People like Junior Seau, Mike Webster, Pat WIllis....they were all Pro Bowlers, and were greatly affected by CTE. Plus there have been stories in the AP of High School football players committing suicide because of it.

Hockey players need somebody of like, Messier magnitude to step forward and it seems unlikely right now.

Oh most, certainly. But I think he might be the least deserving Vezina winner ever. Of the 12 goalies who got Vezina votes, he had the 2nd worse SV% and 3rd worse GAA. And he not only won but ran away with it because he won 40 games.

The 03/04 Avs casually added Paul Kariya and Teemu Selanne for peanuts each just because they could (too bad they had David Aebischer in net). The pre salary cap days were pretty cool if you supported a team that could afford a $95M payroll, but sucked for everyone else.
Aebischer was good that year, while Kariya and Selanne were bad. Even with people assuming that Aebischer would be a bottom 5 goalie they were seen as Cup favourites, there lines were tanguay-Forsberg-Hejduk a year after they tore apart the NHL and Kariya-Sakic-Selanne when Sakic was still a top 5 player and which reunited Kariya and Selanne from their Mighty Duck days. Their defense was really good too.

This is gonna look great when he tackles some guy to punch him in the face and get thrown out of the game again, creating a three-on-one that gives up the GWG in the process.

I mean, Game 5 was the quintessential Chris Neil game. He was on for 2:26 and took 12 minutes in penalties.

I said it in the GDT last night, but I'm not sure the Penguins even want to win at this point. Especially after that tumble Crosby took into the boards, pieces might start falling off their dudes if they had to play another dozen games.

Really what I'm saying is that the humanitarian thing is for the Caps to win.

This is basically how I feel about the Sens. Sure, they could probably beat the Rangers in one of the next two games, but at what cost? Karlsson's foot is going to fall off if he has to play another ~12 games, and they don't go anywhere without Karlsson.

For the greater good and Karlsson's well-being, the Sens need to throw the next two games. :colbert:
