It could be like a mix of exploration and mining. Fly far out of the bubble in search of space whales and bring back their precious oil. Hell they could add Greenpeace factions that try to go out there and protect them.

This is exactly what's going to happen when/if you can actually interact with shoot at Thargoids.

Exceptionally done. I especially liked the part where you got the part where they wing the Space Cops to mesh up with the song about hitting an undercover cop. Also, did the Keelback driver jump away without his fighter buddy?

I saw one of the generation ships and definitely :five: for spooky. The random portholes lit or flashing feebly, the subtle creaking of the metal as it expands or shifts, and the voice acting was very well done. I can't be bothered to fly to every ship, but have seen most on youtube. I hope there's one or two that haven't met some grisly end. It would be fun to find one orbiting some planet somewhere, turned into a station, or a ground port where a successful colony was built.

Its really a shame that E:D cant have something similar to Starcitizen. ED gets none of that because its an inch deep and 10 miles wide.

I heard that some NPCs will plant acorns at stations, and when their grandchildren visit those stations decades later, they'll be able to find and admire those sweet sweet legacy spaceoaks :krad:

It seems like it would be faster to just retrofit a jump drive on one. Or just ferry the people off individually. Although maybe nobody would want to tell them that technology exists now to avoid pissing them off. "Yeah the trip you've spent the last 1000 years on? That took me like 10 minutes. Like, this isn't even far enough out that if I realized I forgot something I wouldn't turn around to go back and get it."

Id rather nudge a plague ship into earth. Could be the greatest player vs player event in the game. You choose to help or try and stop it.

Unequivocal, no.

The AspX gives you more options, more survivability, more self-sufficiency, but you pay for it, mainly in the one thing that explorers value the most: jump range. Not a whole lot, but it's there, and it adds up. It also reacts poorly to undersizing your thrusters to get more range, which makes some planetary approaches a bit more annoying.

How, exactly, that affects your exploration depends a whole lot on your approach to travel vs. discovery. If you are one who wants to go far and definitely be first in some remote corner, and who'll only honk the system and leave unless there's something really spectacular in there, then that cost matters more; if you're one to obsessively scan everything, then more jumps just gives you more to scan, so it's not actually a cost at all.

…and if you're coming into a lot of money, you might also be eyeing the mighty exploraconda. The argument for it in relation to the Asp are much the same, except it actually gets more range. What you pay for is that while you're flying between planets to scan them, it's toss-up whether it's you or the planets that have the worst turning circle.

Exploraconda is the goal. Like a few others I started a new pilot after coming back for Horizons, and I miss that ol' dumb boat. Never got to explore with it back then.

Another ship recommendation question: I want to ferry stuff to Cali and Colonia for the community quests. What's the best ship for ultra-range freight?

Welp I'm in love with the courier. I jacked some super-rolled Clean Enhanced drives into it and a tricked out FSD. 28ly jump range and 367 top speed. 8 tons of cargo space and a missile launcher that holds 10/27 seeker missiles.

The hull is paper, sure, and the slightest whisper breaks most of my modules but I can dunk missiles all day and outrun basically anything out there.

I was excited for a Clipper but now... Now I don't know how it could get better than this!

EDIT: forgot the best part about my ship: it needs a half-empty tank to fly well and disables a bunch of modules to deploy weapons. It's an SR71 in space.

The DF loving annoying speed ship charter is classified but to get you started, grab some 3A enhanced thrusters, get a stonking great dirty drives 5 roll, and lightweight most everything else. For more info you'll need to make a pilgrimage and chat with the speed monks in discord.

Here's a guy I pulled over who stuck around long enough for me to start recording, mess around with some more, then have another frog come in for the kill. He eventually got away :( Also I am terrible at flying this thing but its fun as gently caress.

Cobra III's have size 4 thrusters, which means they can't use enhanced performance drives (only come in size 2 or 3), so you're probably gonna top out at 600 at most.

Well you could probably stick a size 3 on there but you're gonna be slow as gently caress because of how heavy you are.

For speed ships your options are really Courier, V3, or iEagle (really only the first 2 are useful).

Although I did once come up with a sidewinder build that boosted 666 m/s.

Edit: I got a good amount of CIF as mission rewards at Quince and from scanning the bugged overlapping outposts, random outposts will give you some but not as much as Quince.

Here's a Cobra III with decent cargo space, a shield, dirty drives level 5, and a couple lightweight 3 components, it boosts 577 which is pretty solid.

(weapons are just random poo poo)

If you lightweight 5 everything you can squeeze out a couple more m/s but eh.

Edit: I ran a Cobra IV build with similar constraints, it only did about 420.
