It never occurred to me that Sae could have been a party member before people posted about it in this thread, and now I want it more than anything. I can't imagine what her Persona could be, though. To fit with the theme it would have to be a god that turned against the other gods to side with humans, or something.

If the game hadn't already established a pattern of Personas having to be the same gender as their users, Stede Bonnet would have been a really good pre-ultimate Persona for Sae. It might be a bit too close to Ryuji's though...

EDIT: Some context for what I mean, courtesy of Wikipedia:

Wikipedia posted:

Stede Bonnet (1688[1] – 10 December 1718[2])[3] was an early eighteenth-century Barbadian pirate, sometimes called "The Gentleman Pirate"[4] because he was a moderately wealthy landowner before turning to a life of crime. Bonnet was born into a wealthy English family on the island of Barbados, and inherited the family estate after his father's death in 1694. In 1709, he married Mary Allamby, and engaged in some level of militia service. Because of marital problems, and despite his lack of sailing experience, Bonnet decided he should to turn to piracy in the summer of 1717. He bought a sailing vessel, named it Revenge, and travelled with his paid crew along the Eastern Seaboard of what is now the United States, capturing other vessels and burning other Barbadian ships.

Well well, mister fancy-pants, I hope you're wearing your matching sweater today, or you'll be cut down like the ugly tree you are.
It's me, I'm the guy who hated Yusuke.

I basically spent the entire game wondering why the rest of the team put up with his poo poo. He's a creep to women (I don't care if it's PURELY FOR THE ART), has no social graces whatsoever, and continually acts as though the rest of the party should give him money and favors for no reason. Were it not for his Persona I feel like the party would have kicked him to the curb and never looked back after Madarame's palace.

Yusuke is the best.

Dramatically falling to his knees when some rando says his painting sucks.

Striking power rangers poses in a church.

Inviting his buddy on a romantic boat ride so he can paint strangers.

Detailed text messages about Mehjed.

wait, asks for money? the entire gag is he doesn't realize just how broke he is. like he talks about how he eats crackers for lunch every day and ryuji invites him out to ramen, he doesn't go 'ryuji i want ramen 'cause im broke.'

Okay, pre-Ultimate Persona for Sae: Miss Marple, from the writings of Agatha Christie. Ultimate Persona: Abeona, Roman goddess of travel, also in charge of protecting children when they undertake journeys away from home.

Basically any time the gang gets together for food he declares that he wants things a certain way and that's how it's going to be (and then everyone ignores him). I don't know if he ever straight-up says "hey can I borrow some yen" but there are definitely some instances where he acts like the party should pay for him.

I don't think that's a real thing

I thought of Abeona after taking an extra look at the other Phantom Thieves' ultimate personas and realizing that Morgana gets Mercury because Hermes (his Greek counterpart) had the ability as the Divine Messenger to effortlessly flit between the realm of the Gods and the realm of humans - similarly to how Morgana can move between the Metaverse and the real world without the MetaNav. Then I figured that you could make a similar argument to how Sae, if she joined the team, would be moving between the worlds of The lovely Adults and the Phantom Thieves - hence, a goddess of traveling.

Abeona's role as the "protector of children on journeys" also just fits well with how she's the key part in the plan to prevent Joker getting a hole in his brain after the Casino heist.

This never happens.

You all make hot pot together and he suggests a side that he prefers and you can challenge him with one you like and he agrees to make it a competition.

Ann teases him for wearing his school uniform on a holiday and Yusuke says he did laundry today and comments that he can't afford a lot of outfits.

He leaves hanging out with you early because it's going to take longer for him to get home, he plans to get off the train a stop earlier because he can't afford to ride the whole way.

Yusuke is never anything in group scenes but polite, forward thinking and a bit spacey, I have no idea where you got this from.

It's actually really cool how Yusuke being relatively poor is brought up in a way that's not poking fun at him and that the only reason he can even afford to go to school is through a scholarship that he tries really hard to maintain. He has to make changes to his life that are different from his peers to accommodate his lack of wealth like countless people do irl

I'm afraid so.
By far the best Yusuke scene is where Mishima drags you to the planetarium because he wanted to investigate a rumor saying there was some weirdo wandering around there mumbling to himself and disturbing the patrons, and when you get there it's just Yusuke but when he hears why you came Yusuke promises to help you find the weirdo.

Such a good friend.

Oh, lighten up Mr. Dooms-and-Gloom, "embezzle" is metal.
Yusuke rules and also I don't hate Mishima, the guy just needs 1 person to believe in him and tell him what he is doing isn't useless, and he at the end of the game rallies everyone to your cause. I will accept that Floral Pants Man is an acceptable replacement however, and ultimately on the friends ranking list I do place FPM above Mishima. In a game where everyday you see a # of how many people believe in you I think the guy who believes in you arguably THE MOST deserves at least a little credit even if he is completely socially inept.
