Can't wait for my Pok3r to areive tomorrow, I just hope I'll be home when the delivery guy swings by. As for key caps, I absolutely love the Calm Depths set. Royal Navy or GMK Penumbra also look great. What are the odds there's going to be a new groupbuy of one of those, or them appearing on massdrop any time soon? I read SP has a really long backlog on SA sets so even if they'd start organizing a new run tomorrow it probably will ship in 2018. Reason for asking that I'm thinking about ordering the Miami Dolch set. I like it, but it's nowhere near the sets I mentioned earlier. I don't mind ordering it and replacing it by (hopefully Calm Depths) in the future, but I hate to see a group buy start befor my Miami Dolch set has even arrived. How do you find out when new key sets are announced, just checking r/mk, gh or dt?

usually geekhack is the best for upcoming stuff as interest checks are posted there so people can get feedback before starting a final group buy. But, if you want penumbra, you can buy it now, if you want to pay out the rear end for it https://originative.co/products/penumbra

Oh yeah I forgot that Originative have that one in stock. The price is a bit too steep for my first keycap set though. I'll keep an eye out on geekhack for interest checks amd probably will order the miami doch on massdrop to get things started. I think it'll ship in august (if there are no delays).

Hoping Massdrop does a non-rainbow Pok3r at some point. I want my clears or greens, which aren't compatible with the rainbow lighting. I especially dislike the linear switches which are so prevalent this time. (Though shitloads of options if that's your thing.)

I think I finally got razer synapse to start working again on my PC but it doesn't remember any of my registered products or recognize my tartarus that I have had for 2 years, and when I try to re register it it says invalid product number and won't let me, so I think I am done with loving around with razer. Is the Logitech g13 still the only non shady bullshit competition when it comes to programmable keypads? Is logitech's software less godawful than razer's? I just need something I can program shortcuts and macros for digital art programs to use with my tablet monitor, not having one totally fucks up my workflow (having an 'undo' macro key is so goddamn important for drawing digitally you have no idea) e: important info, in the related items on amazon for the g13 is a blue quadruple XL size 'build the wall' t shirt Wowporn fucked around with this message at 03:50 on May 8, 2017 |

The big thing I'm looking for really is just programmable, macros, and not horrific software paired with it.

tired of the G710+ taking up so much drat space on my relatively small desk. is there a backlit mechanical keyboard that has volume and track controls and isn't made in the PRC? the Topre Realforce RGB looks like the closest available, but it only seems to have volume controls, and I'd prefer TKL if i can get it.

I'm a little confused about people's DIY keyboards - do the switches and PCB snap together or is it soldered? What's the basic steps for DIYing a board?

well why not posted:I'm a little confused about people's DIY keyboards - do the switches and PCB snap together or is it soldered? What's the basic steps for DIYing a board? Most of the builds I have seen use switches mounted to a plate that goes over the PCB. The mounted switches are inserted into the PCB and soldered at two points per switch. This can then be mounted into a full case or combined with a bottom plate to make a "sandwich" case. You can find videos on youtube that definitely help clarify everything that goes into building a keyboard. I've obviously left out a lot, like mounting stabilizers, adding LEDs, etc. On Youtube, skiwithpete has archives of keyboard build livestreams that show every bit of the process. They are quite long though so you'll probably want to skip around.

I figured that all the sets that ran are hardly available and if they are they are probably insanley priced (for my liking at least). I guess I'll have to take a look at other sets or manufacturers. I already looked at PMK / Originative but their prices are a bit too much for me (for now). I hadn't heard of MaxKey or zfrontier so that's really helpful. I tried looking at TaoBao but I can't figure it out for the life of me.

PMK is the direct to consumer arm of SP Originative usually sells either SP or GMK produced sets Pretty much no one keeps SA, DCS or DSA profiled SP keys in stock, it's all small batch, single-ish run stuff, so either you join a group buy or you deal with the crazy second-hand prices. You might find some GMK (Cherry profile keys) here and there, but they're as expensive if not more than SP. If you're looking for something really cheap you could always look into [url=https://mechanicalkeyboards.com/shop/index.php?l=search_list&s[title]=Y&s[short_desc]=Y&s[full_desc]=Y&s[sku]=Y&s[match]=all&s[cid]=0&s[search]=tai-hao]Tai-Hao[/url] (Cherry-ish) but it's not the same thing as SP/GMK. My second mechanical keyboard was a Corsair K70 RGB. I can confirm Corsair keyboards are pretty great. Just as a note, the floating key design that Corsair keyboards use makes them unusually loud, my K70 RGB has Red switches and they're louder than the Blues in my first keyboard with an enclosed design.

I'd shop for a board with knock off switches without weird shaped permanently attached wrist rests like: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B01I1N6J34/ I have a TKL version of a mechanical eagle board and it's not bad. The switches are very similar to cherry blues, maybe slightly heavier but not as heavy as the cherry mx greens I use normally. The replaceable switch gimmick is okay but not amazing since the legs on some switches don't really pop into the board quite right.

SgtSteel91 posted:I kind of was interested in a gaming keyboard that could light up "gaming" is kinda vague, so you'll have to narrow it down a bit for us. my take on it is that you'll be soliciting specific keys a lot more than others (wasd and whatever else) versus regular use, so unless you want to replace the board quickly, you want the best key switches possible in there. the reference brand is cherry and they basically come in 3 types: linear (reds being most common, with silent red & black showing up once in a while) arguably better for high apm or twitchy gaming tactile (brown being most common, clear also available) great for general typing & gaming clicky (blue being the most common, greens sometimes showing up) also great for anything, but be aware that they're noisy as all gently caress especially in a cheap casing before buying anything, you should visit your local computer store to test all three types. once you've figured out what you like, that also narrows down stuff. anything with real cherry keys will be ~$100, with deals to be had if you shop around. there are a few decent clones like gateron (as nondescript mentioned) but if possible spend the extra for the real deal. backlit keys is a fairly common feature; if what you're looking for is full rgb backlighting, that'll cost a bit more. for something with rgb lighting on the cheap: https://www.amazon.com/Corsair-Gaming-K55-Keyboard-Backlit/dp/B01M4LIKLI/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1494458512&sr=8-6&keywords=corsair+rgb https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ukZwCBWX9fs *not mechanical* for an actual mechanical board with monocolor backlighting: https://www.amazon.com/Corsair-STRA...rds=corsair+rgb https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IkblpbyX1IU for a proper rgb experience with good switches: https://www.amazon.com/Corsair-Mech...sair+strafe+rgb https://www.amazon.com/Corsair-Gami...corsair+k70+rgb https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G8xj9FAOuxU the strafe rgb is obviously more expensive than your original choice, but it's the cheapest i'd go for something rgb. logitech and a few others offer similar products but i can't really help you there.
