Don't forget the Majora's Mask loving bullshit. I'm told "it gets better" when you learn some certain song but I didn't play the game much past leaving the village. Unpopular video game opinion: Never got into Team Fortress

Sim Farm is the best farming simulator game there is or ever was, and all the modern ones are missing the entire point of what made it fun. I don't want to have to worry about loan payments or going bankrupt because I keep rolling my brand new 60000 dollar tractor into a pond accidentally, I just want to grow some carrots or whatever. Maxis and Sierra (pre-2000 at least) made some of the best games and it's a shame there's nothing like them anymore.

Building off this for a potentially even less popular opinion: Tomb Raider was never good. The original games were nothing but lovely tedious combat and lovely tedious jumping puzzles with graphics that looked bad then and look even worse now. Edit: it's kinda funny though that the biggest improvement between the first two games was making Lara Croft's tits look less like pyramids and more like dodecahedrons. Literally the entire point of the series was "play as lady with huge knockers and skimpy clothes," gameplay was an entirely ancillary consideration and it shows. I think the switch will fail horribly after the novelty wears off. I hate Nintendo and their our way or the highway business model, going all the way back to the NES. They make a few good games but they should just get out of the console market.

There's actually a lot of similarities between the fan bases of the new XCom games and Dark Souls, and I have to wonder how much overlap there is between the two. Think about it--both fan bases are annoyingly rabid over games that range from below average to above average; for whatever reason they're ultra-smug about how "difficult" the games are to the point where they think "heh, you are bad at the game  " is some sort of world-destroying burn; and they both felt the need to buy lovely emoticons for their respective games

Master of orion 1 > Master of orion 2. Actually MOO1 > pretty much any other 4x game before or since. Civ 4 probably comes the closest but even it feels bloated compared to MOO1. And thats not just nostalgia either, I only started playing MOO1 like 2 years ago.
