Dallas Mavericks: Generations
After playing a lot more of NBA Playgrounds I've decided I agree with all the reviews scoring it around a 7. It's an average arcade basketball game.

After I stopped wanting it to be NBA Jam and played it for what it is, the game became a little more fun. It's not perfect by any means and hopefully the post launch support will be as good as they are claiming. (Online finally added to switch, extra players, possible mode without lottery wheel) In the single player tournaments the computer can start to cheese it up and suddenly make Shaq an unstoppable 4 point shooting (3 point shot released at the perfect time) machine.
The Switch version is more incomplete than the others and still doesn't have online. It also does not run as well as it should out of dock. It doesn't bother me but I've read the dev team is going to try to improve this.. Not being able to immediately select the character you want can be frustrating and is a big way for the developers to be lazy about game content. You get one gold pack per finished tournament but run out of tournaments quickly. The developers said you start getting a gold pack on every level up after 50, however I'm closer to 20 after having finished the single player content. This is clearly designed to add micro transactions for the packs after the game has been out a few months.
The main difference between this and Jam is the lottery wheel. The lottery wheel builds up as you do positive things for your team (dunk, steal, block, score, but not shove) Dunking/Alley-oops are the fastest way to build it up. Once it's all the way up you can get powerups that range from nearly broken (2x dunk point modifier, 2x 3 point modifier, hotspots that become bigger x multipliers with each made shot computer. Dirk hit a 10 point shot on me) to not broken (unlimited turbo, a ball on fire that's a guaranteed make.) Other smaller differences are selecting player instead or team, no on fire after 2 makes in a row, game is played in one segment/not quarters.
One thing I thought was weird is the game has no dribbling or passing stats. Shaq can dribble/pass just as well as Chris Paul. Great three point shooters like Curry, Dirk, and Bucks Ray Allen can hit threes from half court with regularity. All "Legend" players seem to have an unexplained special move. Dirk's let's him do his signature shot, AI gets a crossover, Magic a special pass, etc. The game doesn't explain how to do these and it seems they aren't activated with the same button. Lol on the developers part to make Curry, Westbrook, and Harden Legends while Durant is only an epic card. If you're looking for a quick arcade basketball game to play with friends, this will get the job done.

The first part you quoted was meant to be additional features that are announced for post launch support. Currently no online on the Switch, other versions have it. My understanding is the other versions only 2 humans at once atm. (So only 1 on 1, currently can't team up with a friend to play 2 on 2 vs ppl online.)

We're not going to be there. Hopefully, we'll be maybe a playoff team next year. It would be tough to consider us a possible champion."... "

Man, it's weird to see Phil play this out so poorly. I mean, can he tank Melo's trade value anymore than he already has? Does he actually think NYC's going to buy Melo as the bad guy for wanting to stay, even (especially) with all this B.S. coming from the top?

The latest revelation that Carmelo was jealous of Jeremy Lin and D'Antoni threw his hands up in the air and quit don't help. It'd suck to go to NYC to be the king of media or whatever he was trying to be and then some guy from Taiwan upstages you.

I mean, that's really the discussion, Finals MVP isn't an award for the whole playoffs and in the finals Parker shot 57% (and 57% from 3) on 24.5 points per game in a quick series. Duncan was way better in the first 3 rounds (and particularly great against the Suns which was the Spurs biggest test) and the finals were a victory lap.

Parker did put up the biggest finals GmSc in 2007. Usually the narrative goes around selecting the MVP guy even if another guy has the better numbers.

Spurs vs. Warriors is the first real playoff series this year. Two authentic titan championship contenders.

List of Spurs greats not playing tomorrow:
David Robinson
Tim Duncan
George Gervin
Artis Gilmore
Derek Anderson
Tony Parker
Larry Kenon
Avery Johnson
Sean Elliott
Terry Cummings
Dennis Rodman
Billy Paultz
Alvin Robertson
Vinny Del Negro
Tiago Splitter
Gene Banks

The Spurs should still be competitive.

I also think both Hakeem and probably Ewing (as I said before I don't remember him that well) are being underrated by WS because it measures offense better than defense.

Looking at DWS/48 Ewing, Olajuwon are credited more than most of those others.

code:
DWS/48	Player
0.13	David Robinson
0.11	Patrick Ewing
0.10	Hakeem Olajuwon
0.09	Shaquille O'Neal
0.08	Wilt Chamberlain
0.05	Kareem Abdul-Jabbar
Ewing, Olajuwon not having as good shooting numbers compared to Shaq, Robinson and Kareem hurts their WS/48 a lot. Wilt, Olajuwon and Ewing have very similar career shooting but Wilt played in a much weaker era so he has the stronger value numbers. If Hakeem and Ewing were playing in the 1960s they'd look way better of course.
