i like most of shinchiro's stuff except weirdly for samurai champloo. or maybe that's not weird maybe others don't get into that either anyway i finished pocos udon world i will have cavities now also heres a picture of ice cream pie for no reason

I've only seen the first two episodes of Punchline, but that first episode was really loving bad imho. The second episode was serviceable, but it's pretty much at the bottom of the priority list for watching because that first ep was such a turnoff. The only real reason I'm keeping it there is because people keep on telling me it has a great payoff, so perhaps I'll see one day and be singing it praises like the rest of you guys. I will give it that it was very colorful with nice visuals though. And while there's lots of things you could complain about, "forgettable" doesn't really seem like one of those things.

Super No Vacancy posted:the first episode was good, probably It does what a first episode should do, set up intrigue for the mysteries to follow, and gives you a rundown of the basic premise and a very brief look at some of the reoccurring characters... But it didn't make me give a poo poo about any of them. Especially the main character, whose purposefully left mysterious as to what his deal exactly is, to the detriment of the viewer. The rules are absurd and contrived, and I really hated the "video-gamey" Level-Up aspect shoved in there.

yeah as much as i like it the first few episodes of punch line kind of suck rear end and put a way bigger emphasis on the fanservice humor, which kind of becomes less relevant after episode 3 and almost totally fades away in the second half, and don't get into any of the fun character relationship stuff that becomes the core of the show later on. it takes until like, episode 4 to establish the fact that yuta does in fact know and care about these people and show how far he'd be willing to go to protect them, and it gets a lot better from there. until then they sort of do flashbacks and stuff but don't really communicate it otherwise

plus some of the jokes in the first three or so episodes are just... Bad. like, episode 3 ends on the worst gag in the entire show iirc. i can very easily see why they would put people off, i only got into it myself when i picked it up a long time after dropping it once and i hit episode 4

i also don't know why punch line has a level up aspect because that uh barely ever comes up, at least in a video gamey context, ever again like the main character just kind of naturally grows to be able to trigger his powers on his own after a point and it just kinda happens and nobody brings it up so it's weird to set up some kind of video gamey context for it in the first place when it's pretty easy to just figure out "yeah he developed as a character and now he's strong"
