your major failing was bringing up kylo and rey being bad characters in defense of a movie without any characters.

red letter media said the neon demon was one of the best movies of 2016 and that movie was a pile of poo poo, so they might be wrong sometimes.

Speaking of Ridley Scott movies and soundtrack, noticing that part of the main theme for gladiator is almost exactly the same as the main theme of Pirates of the Carribean, and kind of for the Rock as well, is how I essentially don't have much respect for Hans Zimmer. e: I also think the Rock might be the only Michael Bay movie I find to actually be enjoyable.

Randarkman posted:
That's not an unpopular opinion. You have to have a brain parasite to not like The Rock. Michael Bay movies were good (The Rock) or at least watchable (Bad Boys) when Jerry Bruckheimer was around. The second they split up Bay turned into the biggest hack.

I could see how someone might think blade runner was "boring" but me personally, I love it. I also unrionically love it for the vistas. Blade runner has some amazing vistas.

I really shouldn't have watched RLM's Get Out review before I watched the movie, if you know the twist it completely ruins the whole thing.

Personally I am still at a loss as to why they hated Independence Day and loved ID: Resurgence. That makes no loving sense. Probably one of the few reviews i disagreed with. Maybe it's because I grew up loving ID4 but it's a solid fun disaster action movie. Sadly it is also responsible for the wave of disaster porn we got afterwards: Armageddon, Deep Impact, Day After Tomorrow, 2012,etc....

They liked the Independence Day sequel? That was easily the worst movie I saw that year.

I suppose I should finally get around to watching this Blade Runner film I'm hearing so much about, shouldn't I? E Also yes, Independence Day was pretty much the perfect popcorn movie during the time, and still holds up for me personally. And I also thought the sequel was dogshit.

Groovelord Neato posted:i think mike used his same "shlock" excuse he used for jurassic world. I remember there being a couple of moments in Jurassic World that are like just pure distilled schlock though. Particularly when the raptors at the end "talk" to each other to not help the evil t-rex raptor anymore or one of them convinces the others to help Chris Pratt either way. I burst out laughing at that in the movie theater. The Archaic posted:Personally I am still at a loss as to why they hated Independence Day and loved ID: Resurgence. That makes no loving sense. I loved ID4 as a kid when it came out, I even had a poster! Rewatching it now is just boring and weird with Randy Quaid flying around being a drunk pilot looking for redemption or something.

I was kind of disappointed when I saw Blade Runner. It's not great by any stretch (except for Rutger Hauer's tears in the rain monologue) but at least it was passable.

Groovelord Neato posted:i think mike used his same "shlock" excuse he used for jurassic world. The HitB with Gillian is great, because Mike shits on her non-stop for liking romantic comedies as a guilty pleasure - the way people like fast food as a quick way to get some lovely food when they're in the mood - basically called her a giant idiot. And then he went on to defend action schlock later in the same episode, and every episode since. I still love Mike, despite his review of Jurassic World, but man, it was tough to hang in there.

Mike would hate Jurassic World if he watched it again. I liked it when I first saw on the big screen because it was loud and bright and I stuffed poo poo in my face. Fallon's alien face pulled me out of the movie, but still, it was enjoyable. Watch it at home and it's just terrible. edit: watch it sober and it's just terrible
