veni veni veni posted:I wish Lego or would start selling boxes of parts just geared towards themes. Kind of like those Lego classic boxes but for more specific things. Like, a big box of sci fi stuff like canopies and engine parts and hoses and gray geebly bit's etc. Just general stuff for ships and robots or whatever. Same for any other theme. It would be nice if they started catering to people who like to make MOC's a little more. I'm guessing they don't really like how they tend to remember their shape and put unique strains on whatever pieces they attach to, based on how the hose curves. The old hoses could be fragile--I have some where the antistud got damaged, and it significantly reduces the clutch it has, and they never seemed to make a hose antistud quite as sturdy as a 1x1 plate/tile. I've bought classic sets where the hoses have been in place for 20+ years, and they're drat near impossible to put anywhere else. I would love themed parts sets. They used to make them, but there hasn't really been anything similar in nearly 20 years. Guess it wasn't worth the effort, especially once they started up Pick a Brick.

I've been out of the Lego game for a while but I want to give my nephew a Lego Castle Lemongrab. Can anyone help reverse engineer this? How do I...do that? I'm sure the answer involves bricklink but I haven't tried really building in like a decade and I'm all dumb now. 1. Does anyone know how I can find a parts list for this MOC? All I can find is a Flicker gallery with some views of it. 2. Is anyone good enough at ID'ing parts that they could rough out what types of parts I'm looking at? I forgot the terminology for even the most basic pieces. :/ I'm fine overbuying a little and having leftover parts if anyone wants to be so amazingly helpful as to guess at quantities of parts. 3. At the very very least, can anyone help me figure out what pieces the large head/dome thing is made of and how it's constructed? That's the main thing stumping me. Thanks muchly!

I dont have any of those weird side pieces handy but they attach the same way The weird eye piece I cant identify probably goes on like this Mouth piece goes on like this and the eye piece goes around it I tried it using 1x2 through the center but unless you use some really esoteric pieces it can't be done without make it wider (i think)

Have you considered finding and contacting the creator? To make it even easier, you might be able to just pay the creator to send you the parts/instructions sometimes.

This might be a bit tough to make since I don't think almost any of of those pale yellowish color parts are made in that color. poo poo, I'm actually not sure what color that is. I have all the parts on the exterior of the head so I can give you the numbers and try building it tomorrow. The inside is probably exactly what spookydonut posted.

Thanks for the help everyone, I really appreciate it. I should've mentioned up front that I plan on using standard yellow instead of that weird sickly pale yellow since almost nothing comes in that color.veni veni veni posted:This might be a bit tough to make since I don't think almost any of of those pale yellowish color parts are made in that color. poo poo, I'm actually not sure what color that is. At the Disco said, it's part 52190 on Bricklink, and it's not known to be in yellow. One store claims to have four in yellow, but doesn't actually provide a picture of them, so they could be miscategorized. Sometimes people do legit have parts in colors that never appeared in sets, usually from test runs that made it outside the factory, but it's very unlikely. There are some parts in "Cool Yellow/Bright Light Yellow", but they're mostly hair, and that particular wedge piece is not one.

Awwwwwww poo poo. Went to my old high school's annual rummage sale and came away with a 30 pound tub of legos from the late 70s/early 80s/fabuland, two old big castle boxes in decent shape, a few more recent lego boxed sets, a shitload of micromachines, roblox, and gijoe stuff, and a gen-yew-ine cymbal-clanging monkey from god knows when, the type you see in movies sometimes. It's ancient, the fur is disintegrating, and the battery case has cardboard in it, which I've never seen in something that wasn't 50+ years old. It rules.

So thanks again, all. Micro-scale seems really cool.

Trip report: I finished the Lepin UCS Tantive IV. This thing is a beast. Here's the finished model with an ordinary reference cat for scale: Kinda glad I didn't get the SSD, I'm not even sure where I'm going to fit this. As I said, this was the first Lepin I've gotten, and overall my impression was really positive. I've heard a number of issues people have had, including missing bags, missing pieces, warped pieces, bad instructions, mangled instructions/stickers, shady dealers, or even entirely wrong sets, and fortunately I had (almost) none of those. I used H&H Co., and they were fast with shipping and packed everything well. A couple pieces were missing, but had substitutes; specifically, a 4x6 brick (3 4x6 plates were included instead), and a couple of light grey tiles (they were dark grey). Those particular replacements seem to be pretty common with this set, looking around, so that just seems to be a thing Lepin's doing. There's also a lot of random extra pieces, including some larger ones; I'm not complaining about getting more, but I did have to check to make sure I hadn't missed a step. The build itself was a lot of fun, and took a few days; only some of that was hunting for the right pieces. The build quality was mostly indistinguishable from Lego, as I said before. With one exception: Technic pegs are real hit or miss. A couple structures (the airlocks and bow) are a bit loose and can wobble, but since this is a display piece and won't be moved around a lot that's a fairly minor issue. On the other hand, some of the pegs are way too tight, making those parts really difficult to assemble. The engines were the worst culprit here; since there's a lot of hinges and loose connections in general at that end, trying to force a couple of the engines on without destroying the rest of the stern was a challenge. The stickers are also noticeably lower quality printing than Lego, but I can always order a custom set if I want, and I kinda like the bootleg-iness of these. Especially the "STAR PLAN" on the plaque. Overall, though, great experience.

I think the Lepin choice is pretty easy: 1 - Does Lego still produce the item? Get Lego. 2 - Has Lego discontinued the item? Is it crazy expensive? Get Lepin.

Third party stuff is fine, if they're quality. As in "do they grip as well as lego after 5 years or do they get comparable sun damage?" Since lepin hasn't been around that long, it remains to be seen. Would also be nice if their business model wasn't "clone lego build and sell it as our own," they should be making their own stuff. But I guess they'd lose their market if they did that.

Lepin always makes me think of rabbits. It'd be cool if they did rip-off things of exclusive con doodads. And do their own pick a brick thing but in colour/piece combinations lego don't do. And those cool marbled ones. Just stuff normal lego doesn't do.

It's just so shady that they already have a pre order up for Apollo 11 and it's not even much cheaper. I saw it looking to see what they charged for a UCS B-Wing, which I would like but I'm worried about the quality of the printed parts.

I think it's kind of neat they have MOCs as well. Other than the fact the original designer isn't even getting a design credit. Anyways, I got bored yesterday and went out and bought the Detective's Office. Just finished it and it's pretty neat. I haven't done any serious Lego stuff in decades so it was interesting seeing all the fancy things they do with these expert sets.

I stopped by the mall today to check out a new comic store that open there, only to find that an unofficial Lego store just opened there 13 days ago. Holy loving poo poo yes. I picked up four minifigs that I've always wanted; original Bart Simpson, Jake the Dog, Donald Duck, and Penguin Mascot. New and used sets, large selection of minifigs, and a Pick a Brick like pile of random pieces to choose from. I just learned that it is a national chain and that it's a temporary location until another mall in the area has construction finished. This final location will be further away from me, but it should still be nice
