Luck is real to people, and I actually had an engineer tell me that it was a bad idea to not use the same numbers every time on the lottery. I just want to throttle these people and tell them that there's no luck counter, it doesn't just build up until you win.

im guilty as hell of this in video game casinos

i get stubborn after i lose enough and am sure that the second i stop picking the same number it will turn up

i'm actually almost always right about that, tbf

Probably doesn't help that a lot of game RNGs are modified like that so players don't go too long and abandon the game. It honestly wouldn't be surprising if casinos (assuming they could legally) tracked players and gave them token payouts if they were on a losing streak to keep them engaged.

That degree of manipulation would probably be illegal. Slot machine code has to be reviewed and audited by gaming commissions.

They do track your wins, most casinos have loyalty cards, and will give you free poo poo if you're on a losing streak. They big data the hell out of people with loyalty cards

Ah, OK, I see. For SSI:

https://www.ssa.gov/ssi/text-resources-ussi.htm

quote:

WHAT THINGS DO NOT COUNT TOWARD THE RESOURCE LIMIT?

The following things generally do not count toward the resource limit, no matter how much they are worth:

the house you live in;

one vehicle, if it is used for transportation for you or a member of your household;

life insurance policies you own with a face value of $1,500 or less per person;
burial plots or spaces for you or your immediate family;

a burial fund of up to $1,500 each for you and your spouse's burial expenses;

household goods and personal effects;

property you or your spouse use in a trade or business, or on your job if you work for someone else; and

if you are disabled or blind, money or property you have set aside under a Plan to Achieve Self-Support (PASS).

So there's a $2,000 limit but it only really applies to poo poo you probably won't have if you're qualifying for SSI in the first place. Extra homes, vehicles, investment properties and purchases, that sort of thing

i thought you could find slot machines with near 50% odds and those were the best value in a casino

idk about that, but from what I've seen you have to shove minimum 50 dollars into any modern slot machine (if playing the minimum bet which is usually like 30-50 cents) in order to see an upside and then it's all about whether or not you've got the gumption to walk away with like 10-20 bucks. Multiply all numbers if you want to high roll and max bet. 10% of the time this doesn't work at all, and maybe 15% of the time you'll double your money or better.

The real factor going on is how long it can get you to sit at the machine, the longer you sit the more it will tempt you with upsides, but for most people the longer you sit the more likely it is that you don't walk away and inevitably get robbed.
