PC is supposedly the platform to play on. A lot of reports say the combat is much better suited to 60FPS

Prey seems perfect for when nothing is coming out over the summer and it's been patched to hell and I can get it for $25. The demo didn't unsell me on it but I lost any sense of urgency to play the whole thing. I'll get around to it when I get around to it.

Is there any rest mode options outside of the ones in the power save settings? My new PS4 seems to pause downloads and installs in rest mode and I never had this problem on my old one.

When it says preparing to update, its actually checking the version that you currently have against the versions on PSN servers. If everything checks out and isn't corrupt, it then starts the download. I've found that if you throw the console into rest mode while it's preparing an update, it'll reset the progress on it or stall it.

Human Head hasn't made a lot of terrible games or anything and the first Prey is legitimately good. It seems to lean pretty heavily on what I remember of the general FPS parts of Dishonored 1(didn't get very far because I didn't like it) but with different skill trees. The story telling isn't all that remarkable, the audio mix is super hosed up on PC and they lean way too hard on the play-loud-noise-to-startle-player.

Unlike dishonored 2, its optimization is fantastic so you can run it at a perfectly smooth 60 FPS without needing a supercomputer, it involves fighting fast twitchy enemies which is fine with a mouse but probably really obnoxious with a controller, and the mechanics encourage you to switch weapons a bunch, which works best with a number bar that won't pause the game. Given the input lag problem on PS4, the devs were probably focused on PC while they were making it

Now, it could have just said "Chapter 2" or "Book 2" and continued from there - that would have probably been more appropriate - but making me run through the same poo poo I just did again as a 'new chapter' is what I'd call a dick move. You should stop playing. This forum loves Nier, and hell I love it too, but my hot Nier take is that it's a solidly average game that has a handful of incredible moments in it that are so good that if someone said to me that Nier was their game of the year I could totally see it. The characters will not get the development you want and the overall plot is probably not going to blow you away (these are 2 fronts that the original Nier was superior on).

They should have been chapters and not credits. But since you get credits rolling if you wander too far from an objective, which I legitimately did once on accident because I though that was the path. You should take credits real lightly here.

I mean Yoko Taro straight up said that multiple "playthroughs" was a mechanic designed to reuse assets because of budgetary limitations. Given that, I'm not sure that he was entirely happy with how Routes A and B specifically reflected what he wanted to do with the story. I don't really think there's a problem with them being called endings, though. It straight up says that you should play the game again, and as soon as you do, it's clearly a very different experience.

The "Ending" nomenclature is somewhat bad when they are really more like chapters, yeah. It was nice to get that closure at the end of A, especially with how things play out in the grand scheme of things, but it's definitely not a self-sufficient stopping point. People don't say that you watch Rashomon three times before reaching the True End

There are a lot of storytelling comparisons to make between Nier:A and MGSV. MGS ran credits a bunch of times too, and there are a couple of times where they really feel earned and necessary. I also think that Nier:A successfully accomplished what MGSV failed to do with its Act 2 stuff

Is there really anyone who didn't like the game after the first credits who would like after playing it later? Like, I feel the kind of people who are like "gently caress this" after route A aren't the ones who are going to give a poo poo about any of the story the game has to offer. So like...

I think if you are still going "gently caress this" after the first scene of Route B, then yeah it would probably be best to just shut it down

There've been a lot of comparisons made in the last page or so, and honestly, the more I try to say anything about the nature of the game or its storytelling relating to endings and such, each time I realize that really getting in-depth about it, even with regards to what to compare it to, would require tags and that kinda defeats the purpose, so idk. I will say though that I do love the gameplay. But I also love me some shmups, so that hit like the perfect spot. I'd kill for more games crossing borders like that.

Nier: Automata is an extremely promising effort by Platinum and Yoko Taro that shows both capable of helming a competent, if maybe slightly shallow action RPG. I would very much like to see this collaboration continue; in fact, I'd like Platinum to continue to make games for Square. I want Platinum to take over Bushido Blade. That was a Squaresoft title, right?

Every time somebody posts about Nier:A not working for them it just piques my curiosity even more. No experience with the franchise, don't think I've ever played a Platinum game, and I feel like there's at least a one in three or four chance I end up one of those people but... I just gotta find out for myself. Two years ago when I bought a PS4 (after a console history of hand-me-down NES during the N64 era and then a Wii a few years into its cycle) I was not expecting to find myself with a wishlist of Nier:A, Yakuza 0 and Persona 5, three Japanese franchises I don't think I'd ever even heard of until recently, even ahead of some entries in franchises I like but still haven't gotten around to like UC4 and DS3. I'm just so curious about these games that are getting such strong reactions out of people (and really glad I went PS4 so I could try some poo poo out of my comfort zone).
