hakimashou posted:If affluent people were more likely to vote for Macron and poor people more likely to vote for Le Pen, doesn't that mean affluent people tend to be better than poor people? Generally speaking, poor people are less educated (for obvious reasons) while wealthy people are usually more educated but do not have the well being of the non-wealthy in mind (or at least don't consider others' well being a high priority). So it's basically a choice between ignorance (which can go in different directions depending upon the specific politician and their message) and malice (or at least callousness). Liberals who praise Macron just because he was the opponent of Le Pen are almost as cringeworthy as leftists who wanted Le Pen to win. It's like if you had an election between Donald Trump and John McCain; obviously you would want McCain to win, but it would be patently absurd to say "yay McCain, McCain is awesome!!" if he won. Like, the two candidates certainly aren't equally bad, but they're definitely still bad. This kinda ties into a common trend I've noticed where liberals tend to define the virtue of politicians not by what they support, but by how aggressively they oppose Republicans (or in this case fascists). I.e. Macron is good not because of his own policies or ideology, but merely because he is the opponent to Le Pen.

Yes, I'm absolutely going to believe groups that have a history of spying on the left were totally going to stop violent right wing protests rather than the most likely event in a Le Pen victorious scenario, which is justified antifascist riots.
