The only actual good cover on this page is the soft girl one.

There is like a 95% chance that, if you're making YouTube covers of video game songs that you're a really bad singer

I'm glad you ended up right despite being completely incorrect, at least on my browser.

They're not a metal band, but when I saw Dead Meadow the first time, my friend told me "these guys are the greatest instrumental band with a singer".

The Soft Girl covers sound like what I would expect the actual characters' band to sound like, mostly. I personally prefer a few of the other covers over theirs but they win for 'accuracy' in my book.

I'm very torn. I love the songs in the game, and the covers are a lot of fun (I've liked pretty much all of them), I also totally buy into the "Mae's band is awful" thing. Bah!

Remember: canonically, the singer for all the songs is a guy with a low, growly voice.

And a Bass player who can't hit a single note.

Soft Girl's version of Weird Autumn" is pretty much the definitive one:

Though this guy does a good job of it too:

Pumpkin Head Guy is covered less often but this one's decent:

Their version of "Die Anywhere Else" is almost a carbon copy of "Radio Free Europe" with a dash of other early REM songs. It sounds really good but I imagined the actual band sounding a lot more distorted and abrasive.

That's fair. I should have qualified my statement with "most accurate of the existing covers I've heard."

Hahaha! Aw come on, I can't tell you everything right away! That would make for a boring story, don't you think?
Just finished this game and I'm still not really sure what I think about it. It's definitely good, but it didn't hit me as hard as games like Undertale, Life is Strange or SOMA. It kind of just had this pervasive sense of melancholy about it, which I guess is kind of the point? I think I'll be digesting this one for awhile.

One thing I wanted to know is is there any way to open the safe in the crawl space after Dad moves the boxes?

I tried the game but it felt very empty. Also, the text is white on black and hurts my eyes.

I think KRZ is just okay. When it first came out the storytelling rivaled TWD1 but since then we've had Gone Home, Life is Strange, NITW, many others. Games like these kind of require your emotional investment and when the episodes take 18 months to be released then, welp.

I loved KR0 but I felt like each episode has been slightly worse than the last but maybe peaked with Ep2. Either way 1 and 2 are the most solid.

Maybe it was that by the time I had gotten to 3 I had to remind myself what the gently caress was even going on, same with 4.

Kentucky Route Zero is extremely similar to this game in terms of theme, but it's more dour and dreamlike. Buy it, it's great.

I'd rate KR0 as one of the best-written games ever made and every installment improves on the last, it's definitely worth a buy even if we may all be dead before the final Act is released.

Hmm, how shall I post today?

I just played through this whole game over the bank holiday weekend and it was amazing. Just astonishingly good writing. Proximity was definitely the highlight. I'm going to give it a while before I playthrough again to see the stuff I missed but I'm looking forward to it.

Also, since we're recommending similarish games, everyone should play 80 Days if they haven't already. It's really well written and manages to balance a serious and comedic tone just like Night in The Woods. It's a lot more interactive fiction than NiTW but the gameplay mechanics that are in it (mostly managing the logistics of travel) are really well done.
