I was dropped from a 250ft tower today at FT Benning and the landing was loving terrible. I hit my head, did somersaults, got dragged and had risers wrap around my neck.

It was loving awesome.

Airborne school is awesome and I am just gushing with motivation for monday's jump.

Honestly glad I didn't go through with the airborne part of my contract and went straight infantry. Mechanized was much kinder to my knees and back.

When I was in Italy we were painfully aware of the fact that Airborne is a loving joke and almost nobody took the idea of jumping seriously beyond trying not to die. When I was at Bragg it felt like the opposite was true.

Dude, your pictures which you posted from deployments with your giant rear end smile doing crazy poo poo like learning to shoot from a moving vehicle or whatever (if I remember that correctly, you had some SF types show you some poo poo) demonstrated the proper level of motivated.

Jump School will be the last time jumping is remotely close to "fun".

Wait until 0300 formations for a 1000 jump, only to sit in the Pax Shed until 1400. Then blowing out one knee or both on a Hollywood jump. Or being told five minutes before hook up to avoid the triple strand at Grid Reference gently caress Yourself.

Oh no, they just took me out into the desert for their deployment-end spendex and I got to shoot some neat poo poo. Mainly because I had hooked them up with some weapon parts they need. That was more gently caress THESE GUNS ARE COOL than it was HOOAH ARMY MOTIVATED.

Early Iraq must have been fun as poo poo for an 18/19 year old with no concept of mortality. Just shoot some guns in the desert, run your tank over some random cars, and steal a bunch of poo poo from one Saddam's palaces before making a getaway in your soft sided HMMWV.

In Afghanistan, you couldn't even call in indirect fire on dudes legit shooting at you without getting approval from a 2 star.

You're missing the part where you're waiting in the shed for 6 hours with your nuts/shoulders being crushed, while having to piss like a Russian prostitute onto the president's face, and then the jump gets scratched, so you have to do the whole thing over again the next week.

Or when you go through all of that and finally get loaded on the plane, but you sit on the ramp for three hours before the Air Force says that there's a malfunction with that particular plane so you have to deplane. But there's still a chance that you can jump on a later flight and since you've already been inspected you have to stay in your harness and wait another two hours before the weather gets worse and ends up cancelling the rest of the jumps for the day.

September jumps were the loving worst. Frozen ground but no snow. We'd always get a handful of nasty injuries.

And then a year later we'd do it all over again, having learned precisely nothing, because look at what thread you're in
