I think the point is that throwing around slurs is such basic "be a decent person" thing that there really is no excuse for leniency. Like someone else said earlier, if you had your worst day at work ever and shouted a word like that on your way to the break room you'd be on the fast track to fired-for-cause city. It's already an intense amount of privilege that a baseball player can do that in a stadium of 40k people broadcast into millions of homes and essentially get a 3 day vacation as punishment. A suspension doesn't even come close to being "harsh".

I suck at using BBRef and the like but DH BA over the last couple seasons has been around .240-.250. That's fuckin' dire for someone whose only job is to hit baseballs and literally do nothing else. at least with pitchers they are good at something else and then when something funny happens in their at bats it's really satisfying.

The fact of the matter is that the DH was a gimmick to get people into what is now known as O.co Coliseum. Somehow this gimmick, which removes any sort of strategy involved in managing a 25 man roster, has become dominant in baseball outside of the NL or that one league in NPB. Someone once told me, "I don't want to watch pitchers hit." Well, if I had my way, I'd like to watch strippers take their clothes off and simulate loving every base during the seventh inning stretch. I don't get to see that because that isn't baseball. Neither is the DH.

I was way,way more offended by a guy like torri hunter who said calmly during an interview he didnt want gay teammates. This is multitudes less offensive (to me) then that.
