They actually said you should mix them. As the big ones are specialized compared to other marines. So ideally you would bring both according to them.

Any ideas on how to control for that? Maybe a flat white light at a distance?

This is honestly the part of the Primaris I'm least happy about, if only because each other new piece of info they come out with makes the replacement all the more apparent. I feel like there'd be way less handwringing if they just came out and said "we're changing Marines if that's okay."

People would be pissed if they outright said the existing Marine armies were getting squatted though, and saying "We'll be replacing all Marines with Primaris Marines in X amount of time would tank the sales of half of the 40k range.

I can understand why they're taking their time with it though; they're both such big ranges that they'd have to redo so much at once, they'd flood their own market.

Watch, at the end of all this, Space Marine Scouts will still be the same models :v:

Just use a piece of black velvet to shoot your models on if you're having issues with reflections. If you want to soften the light (less specular) stick a piece of baking parchment* in front of it. If the they're too bright and blowing out details, just move them farther away. Sometimes there are issues with blue hues and poo poo because people are mixing different types of white light and the camera white balance has no idea what in the gently caress to do, that's not really the issue here but I've seen it in this thread before so I just thought I'd add that keeping your lighting consistent as far as type goes always helps in the long run.

*You could also use some screen from like, a screen door.

These are super hot. I like how you did blue and green on the heads instead of yellow and blue or gold and blue. Makes them look unique.

Get a grey card, use it to white balance before you put the models in to take a shot. There's always going to be some struggle with reflections from a blue mat.

I wish they'd done psychic powers as a a 2 options deal:

Pick powers equal to your (usually low) level, or

Roll twice your level of random powers. Or level +2.

Make it a risk/reward thing. Then again, I think there won't be enough powers to randomize lots of stuff this early on.

Thanks. Its actually supposed to be purple and green (naggaroth night and warpstone green base) but that light was more yellow than I wanted it to be. This is a quick phone picture under a white LED lamp:

This is a rare occasion where SRM and I do not agree. Truescale Marines are tight, and (as a guy who has a Marine army) if GW replaced all current Marines with Bigmarines tomorrow, I'd not only be ok with it, I'd welcome it.

That being said, I am not in the middle of a Marine project, and I would love to the opportunity to replace all of my Raven Guard with bigger, cooler, models. I get that people working right now might feel left out. I remember feeling lovely when Forge World came out with Raven Guard upgrade sets about a month after I was "done" with my RG. The new Deathwatch marines and the new Thousand Sons are proof of how cool "bigmarines" can look, and I'm all for an update.

I have a feeling that we're going to have a lot to talk about in Badcast 10.

So what is the consensus on Shadow War Armageddon? I popped into the specialist thread for a quick question about Skitarii arquebus's but I wasn't sure what the current opinion of it was. A game shop near where I live seems to have a pretty active scene for it and since I was planning on getting a small getting started force it seemed like a good game to transition into to while 8h rolls out.

Ooh. That's a nice scheme. I like the sort of Alpha Legion scheme you've got going on, and your brushwork is solid.

It's gonna be a good discussion; I've got such a power armor addiction that it's kinda hard to remove myself from it and look at it objectively.

Also, speaking of the Badcast, we're doing 40k Book Club!! We're talking Cadian Blood this episode, and it's fuckin good. You still have like... 4 days to read it!

I'm curious how they'll differentiate sternguard from bigmarines. If sternguard keep their current rules, they have half the wounds but can come in full squads of 10, get all kinds of wargear options, and get the same kraken bolters bigmarines do plus other ammo options, same number of attacks and better leadership. Unless bigmarines are a lot cheaper or they substantially change sternguard, it seems like them being "specialized" wouldn't mean much because other than having 2 wounds we have guys that do the same poo poo better.

Man I hope they don't gently caress over sternguard to make those guys viable. Them being troops instead of elite is relevant I guess but now the CAD equivalent has 6 elite slots. Bigmarines would be your best bet for holding an objective probably, if their cost is competitive vs a 10 man tactical squad. They take small arms fire as well as 10 tac marines, but heavy weapons fire a lot less well. A battle cannon would ruin the day of these guys. But offensively, if they're more expensive than 5 sternguard I'd probably use the sternguard. If they're cheaper then that would be kinda weird for 2 wound models with those guns.

So, oddly enough, I actually found a unit entry that GW kept despite it not having a model (besides a unique character). Wolf Priests. The old Ulrik the Slayer probably worked back in the day, but the new Ulrik has his helmet off. Thus, there are no Wolf Priest models, which is a shame cause I liked the whole wolf skull helm aesthetic with the old Ulrik.

Hmm, not sure about that. I guess it will come down to combi-weapon usage.

Not that much new, mostly just reiterating lots of weapon stats we've seen already. Regular chainswords are 0 AP 1 Damage but give a bonus attack now. Knight chainswords do a flat 6 damage (no word on strength/AP).
