Hah. The guy at NAPA today was pleased I had part numbers for things I had already checked were in-stock at that store.

I also ordered an alternator bracket tensioner bolt thing from the Toyota dealer yesterday, by part number over the phone. The parts guy asked which shop/account I was with, and got confused when I said "I'm just a guy..."

Probably, but the guy was the perfect blend of stupid and rear end in a top hat. He swapped between it being a 62, 65 and 67 impala, didn't know what the 350 was out of, didn't know what to call the part to get across what he needed and generally wouldn't stop whining about nobody being able to help him in the 20 minutes I was talking to him. :commissar:

On the flip side though, I got to make a dude poo poo a brick this week. He called for a condenser on an '84 merc 380SL. Only one I could locate was just shy of $700 and 30 days shipping from germany. I could hear him start choking on his drink through the phone when I quoted the price. Mercedes themselves are the only ones I could find with a listing, even dedicated import and european parts houses I called were missing a listing for it. He wisely decided to maybe just clean the condenser he had up instead of buying a new one for his mini restoration of the car. It was even better than giving the quote for the $900 electric fuel pump for a vw type 4 that had to come from porsche. :haw:

Local mazda dealer was confused how I had the oem part number for a single intake manifold bolt for my 6 when they couldn't find it. They had been trying to sell me a whole new manifold instead. I've kinda considered tossing them a resume next time they jokingly ask if I'm trying to take their job.

And customers coming in with pre-crossreferenced numbers is a blessing and a curse. If its right, you're golden. If its wrong, its still your fault for selling them the wrong poo poo. I've learned to always offer to double check.

Edit 2: Best feeling is when a customer holds up a part and before he can finish asking what it is, you rattle it off. Made the lady at the next register and my boss bust out a case of the giggles today doing just that with a dude bringing in a gm knock sensor.

I hate when the power goes out for that exact same reason. Sucks waking up that way!

Every time it happens I think about a battery backup of some kind, but it's not common enough that I ever follow up on it.

Our CPAPs are D.C. anyway with a big old brick adapter. They definitely make battery packs for them, at least certain manufacturers.

Yes it was. They, and Keanu especially, made an effort to make the gunplay believable, if not strictly realistic, and it shows.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 was also quite good. I went and saw that on Friday. I'll echo some other reviews in that it didn't have quite the "wow, this is new" balls-out factor of the first one, but of course it really can't. They still made it plenty of fun, and funny. I like that they didn't try to "top" the first one, because they rarely works. The Stan Lee cameo was priceless, and is 3 epilogues a new record?

Sooo my wife decided to try having a horse boarder here on our property again (ie, someone else pays for us to keep their animal). We tried a couple years ago, but the person was slack about paying on time, and their horse was super sketchy, so when she moved on we didn't hunt for another boarder.

Recently my wife saw a post on some local FB page from a lady who was moving into the area and wanted to find a private place to board, not a big facility (for legitimate reasons that y'all won't find interesting) Anyway, the couple just got into town yesterday from New Mexico, and they came over to meet the horse shipper and us and have dinner.....and they're actually super cool. Dude is an actual F16 pilot, and drives a Cobalt SS, which I thought was kind of hilarious.

I tried not to be too unbearably jealous, and somehow managed to not make any Top Gun references. :iamafag:

Mine uses an adapter as well, but I was thinking about just getting a big UPS like you would use for a PC and plugging it into that so I wouldn't even notice when the power died in the middle of the night. Unless of course it was summer and it would start to get hot before long.

I think your going the wrong direction with this. Clean it up, fix it enough to get the CEL off and driving nice, and sell it. PTs seem to attract people with no concept of quality, value or taste, and I think you could get more cash for it than trade.

I've thought about it but if I were to net a serious profit I'd feel bad about taking it for nothing.

ETA:
I just made up my first batch of epoxy to fix my boat. My boat fixing friend said to mix the resin a little hot because it is better than never curing. I took that to heart, and also overshot a little and mixed at about 5:2 instead of 5:1 on a small batch. It started smoking after about 5 minutes and melted the mixing cup. Oops.
Probably didn't help that it was 95 degrees. Hopefully the resin and the stuff I bonded will be okay.

Yeah, the small suburb town (about 10K people) of Lethbridge I just moved to is 100% FTTH. Supposedly telus has tons of bandwidth in reserve and they are just doing the 150/150 now as their top tier offering.

They can probably do gigabit, but Shaw only offers 150, so Telus only offers 150. Shaw has a 1tb data cap, so Telus has a 1tb data cap.

They differ on price though, Shaw's 150 is $84.90 a mo, Telus undercuts them at $82 a mo, that's how you know they're not colluding.
