Aaw. I caught up. Thanks for sticking with this LP for as long as you have so far, it's really good! Looking forward to Ramcs backup gently caress This World Up plan. I'd normally assume Astral Corruption buth Gath has lots of blood so that doesn't seem right. Or Burden of Time but at turn 80+ that kind of feels like it's too late. These are all very unqualified guesses based on reading LPs.

Astral Corruption would at least counter Arcane Nexus somewhat. Probably the best gently caress this world spell that can still work. edit: I guess he could wish for dominion too and try to take out a bunch of vampires if he lucks out and it flips the dominion of a province they're in. Turn 94 ! Turn 94 begins with a message from our good friend Bogarus: ? That’s an interesting message, huh. I wonder wha- !! gently caress! Fuuuck! Where is our Gift of Health??! God loving drat it! Jesus Christ! OK. Let’s figure this out. Our great friend Bogarus has cast a very mighty spell upon the world. I know he cast it really loving hard, because he told me he was doing something nefarious before this turn generated. Let’s start with the basics: Utterdark is an extremely powerful global enchantment. It plunges the world into constant ‘Darkness’, as per the battlefield spell. One of the effects of the spell is that, indeed, every battle now takes place under Darkness. It’s not only the battles, however. If you check the stats of units on the strategic map you’ll see that even outside of battles most of them suffer from the effects of Darkness (-6 Attack, -6 Defense, -6 Precision). Additionally, the income generated by provinces is reduced by 90%, and I’m pretty sure that unrest increases as well. Finally, provinces can be attacked at random by independent, darkness loving creatures. This is a spell that ruins economies and destroys the effectiveness of most armies. However, we are going to be fine. Why will we be just fine? Well, we have been transitioning away from a gold-based economy for a while now. Blood Slaves have become one of the most important currencies driving our expansion and power. Now, I am pretty sure that Darkness will hurt our Blood Slave harvesting, it just seems like it should, but we are also well-situated to transition to a non-Blood, gem-based economy. Bogarus’ casting of Utterdark may have knocked out our Gift of Health (I am extremely salty about this), but we still have the Arcane Nexus, which means that we can still thrive in a non-Blood based world. Perhaps the biggest impact of Utterdark is the 90% income hit. We’ve gone from pulling in an income of between 15k-17k gold a turn to 1.5k this turn. When your gold income is less than your upkeep costs then units start to desert. We lost over 100 units to desertion this turn. That sounds Bad, but there are a few key rules to remember regarding desertion: - First: commanders (mages, priests, and just regular commanders) do not desert. - Second: Units that are Sacred or upkeep-free do not desert either. These exceptions cover just about everything that we consider important at this point in the game. Our Vampires, Demons, hundreds of mages, and sacred Levites and Gibborim should all be immune to the desertion disease. What troops do desert us are just useless chaff, and we’re better off without them. I’m pretty sure that Ramc threw the maximum number of Death gems into this global, so I’m not going to bother trying to dispel it. Instead we are going to work within its confines and exploit it for our purposes. The biggest loser in our new Utterdark world, as far as I can tell, should be Pangaea. Pangaea has the fewest Sacred troops, depends almost wholly upon non-sacred troops in his armies, and hasn’t transitioned very thoroughly to a non-gold-based economy. We, on the other hand, have been summoning demons for a dozen turns, summoning Vampire Lords for like 60 turns [Ed: this is loving nuts], and have multiple hundreds of lesser Vampires that -love- the darkness. So, we’re going to try and exploit this while we can. OK! Let’s take a look at what battles we’ve seen this turn. First we have a handful of Caelum v Bogarus battles that we scouted. We see Caelum smash some PD: Check out the Darkness on the battlefield. Take a fort: Fly, bird-men! ...And get hit by the Master Enslave Golem once again: Could be worse for the birds. We pinged two forts this turn, those in Zeburia and Boggiton. In Boggiton we see a paltry defense without mages: These guys are so dead. And in Zeburia we see that Ramc has set a Fire Storm trap for us: Tricky tricky... We attempted to storm the fort in Utevania, let’s see how that went. Here are the defenders: There's a very large, red fellow. A -lot- of mages, and the King of Flames. Meet Pyriphlogos, the King of Flames. He is one of the Elemental Royalty, and he’s waiting for us. And he's carrying a ton of gems, too. We sent 4 Vampire Lords, a couple dozen vampires, and 3 Sybls to cast buffs on our more important guys: Skeletons, attack! The King of Flames opens the battle by casting Flame Storm, a massive battlefield fire AoE attack: An inferno of flames hurled across the battlefield. They immolate everything they touch. Then Bogarus’ mages open up by spamming the spell Nether Darts. Nether Darts is a pretty nasty spell, having a wide-spread, doing great individual damage, and also inflicting anybody unfortunate enough to be hit with the Feeblemind affliction: Friendly fire! Bogarus hits a lot of his own men with Nether Darts, but they’re mainly chaff so it is no big deal. However, for some reason the King of Flames decides he wants to engage our forces in melee, and instead of casting powerful Fire spells he wanders out of the gates and into the fray: A demi-god wades into the fray. In a moment of wonderful serendipity the King of Flames is hit by a Nether Dart and rendered idiotic: Note how he's lost his magical abilities Incapable of spellcasting, the King of Flames enters the melee and is eventually slain by skeletons. So, too, are dozens of other Bogarussian chaff. Our Vampires are eventually driven away, but we only lose a single Sybl while inflicting real damage to the fort defense: So those were the battles of the turn. In other news, Bogarus’ Utterdark cast netted us almost 300 Pearls: And Utterdark sent a couple of independent monsters to attack random provinces, like so: We're not exactly quaking in our boots. Alright, so what are we doing next turn? Well, here’s where the meta-game intersects with the real game. Afrosquirrel, the player for Pangaea, has staled about 3 turns in a row at this point. He also has been unreachable via IRC for several weeks. I tried to find somebody to take over control of Pangaea, but the password that Afro provided for our sign-up website is being rejected by the game server. I’m going to give him one more turn to show up and retake control of his nation. In the meantime we are going to attack him with everything we’ve got. Let's end this game. Total war in both the East and the West. We'll deploy our Worm mages. Endless Vampires, without ceasing. Yeah, we’re going to war with Pangea. It’ll probably an AI Pangaea in a turn, but we’re doing it all the same. We’re continuing a full-court press against Bogarus as well, storming 4 forts next turn: I hope to launch a Blitzkrieg that can punch through beast-men territory and make a dash for Pangaea’s Thrones. If we are successful we will be in a bigly better position to win the game. Fingers loving crossed.

Look the common people of Gath have lost their supernatural good health and long lives and now exist in a supernatural hellscape of eternal darkness lit only by the occasional bolt of lightning snuffing one of them out. While not huddling in fear from the giants hunting for virgins backed by roving packs of wolves devouring anyone who gets in the way all to fuel some demonic or vampiric nightmare creation being a citizen of Gath is probably really fun.

I guess one benefit you have is that the Bird Economy is independent of utterdark: starvation can be avoided in Dominions by being sufficiently lucky. The vampire I get my news from tells me that this is fake news and that I am not to listen to you any longer. Also I take offense at your misrepresentation of the roving wolf packs. They don't "devour everyone", they will occasionally maul people to death and leave the corpse where it fell, if they kill you at all. Most of the time they just bite you a bunch of times until you roll over and show your belly. Everyone in Gath knows that if the wolf cops start biting you, you should roll over right away. Don't try to resist and definitely don't run.
