I think we were one of like a handful of states that didn't allow beer and liquor sales on Sundays. Ironically the group most against that change were liquor stores. They know people are going to drink regardless and will just buy more on Saturday if they're afraid of sobriety on Sunday. Now package stores have to pay people to work Sundays and probably aren't seeing a significant increase in weekly sales.

There's a auto shop near me with a big brand new building with 8 bays and a high visibility location off of a main road for my area.

They're only open Monday thru Friday 7-5 and I will never understand the logic behind that.

Just like banks and post offices. When I lived at home we had a po box so if I ordered something from Prime and it ended up UPS Surepost I wouldn't be able to get it until Saturday.

Fun fact though: if you hit up Amazon customer service in that situation they'll give you a month of free Prime

I doubt it, there's always a variety of cars there. I'd think with how visible the place is, even a half-day on Saturday would make them a killing on piddly poo poo like oil changes and tire rotations.

Back when I worked at Captain Billy's Fish House, Capt'n Billy told me the secret to success was being open fewer hours, because people would adjust their schedules for you. He also talked about his dream of being flown around in a helicopter.

Billy's was open 3 days a week. Billy's went out of business within 2 years.

That said, there's a fried chicken and fish place nearby that's open two days and week and is always packed. But they aren't planning on buying helicopters.

I already worked Sundays at my old fast food job and they were the busiest time of the week mainly because we'd get a huge crowd after church to get chicken and biscuits.

I think things like that only work if you're providing a product that's in high demand. If they're producing high quality fish more people are likely to adjust their schedules, as opposed to Long John Silver's quality fish.

It's amazing what they can do with computers these days.

Lots of auto shops, of all kinds, are closed on Sundays, it's pretty typical. Hell a chain like Midas is normally closed on Sundays.

It's almost like different industries have different standards of being open. Shocking!

It's not unusual at all. I'm just confused by a very large brand new high profile building not even having a minimum hours outside of business hours. I mean it's not a little mom and pop shop with two bays.

Or that people with jobs where they can't just leave for an hour tend not to spend a lot of money on auto repair? Also I don't know how profitable oil and tire changes are for actual repair shops, the Jiffylubes of the world seem like they would be hard to compete with.

If you look hard enough, and it's really not even that hard anymore, you can find someone that's offended about literally anything ever.

The whole Madelene McCann thing has gone on for so long it's become a personal thing for a whole lot of people so they get overly offended about it. Whatever that business is clearly didn't do it intentionally, or even if they did, people shouldn't get up in arms about it. But again, people get offended over everything.

Yeah I Googled it earlier and saw the headline "Company under fire for sticker" and I'm sort of aghast. Is this our world now?

Jesus, it was just either some poor schlub at the bookstore robotically putting stickers on the books without caring or just something they had to do and chuckled when they saw it, but either way, why get so worked up??

And doctor's offices. I've been trying to get an appointment for weeks after just starting a new job (so I don't want to take a bunch of work off) and it's like there's some kind of law against area clinics being open past 4 pm.

Yeah my dentist likes to close up shop at 3:30 so I always have to snag his last appointment of the day. One time I was stuck in traffic and got there 10 minutes late, and his assistant acted like she was being forced to do pro-bono overtime at the penitentiary, grumbling and slamming tools around and not making any effort not to stab bone with the Novocaine needle. Worst dental experience of my life.

Most of my clients are medical (dental, specialist medical, etc) and they routinely run office hours from 7am-9pm, and thats not even counting the on-call hospital docs that run 24x7.

I had the receptionist at the doctor's office tell me once "we have an appointment at 1230 but if you're late we'll close" and then she was rude as gently caress while I was there. I told the doctor and he said that wasn't the case at all and then as I left it sounded like he was lecturing her about being a bitch.

Kaiser Permanente is open marginally later. The one I used to go to closes at 6 and they have some locations that act as urgent care and are open later.

I liked Kaiser when I had it, although my doctor had a medical degree from a school that ranked #1 in "social mission" and like in the lower 50th percentile for stuff like...doctoring.

A medium-sized city. And to be fair, I'm exaggerating and talking mostly about specialist/actual offices; there are urgent-care clinics open all the time.

But I still don't get it. OBGYN-- every office in the city closes at either 4 or 4:30. Therapy/psych office-- last appointment is at 5 (and always booked 3 months in advance by other people in the same situation I'm in). Scheduling office literally anywhere-- closed at 4:30, lol leave a message or call 911 if it's an emergency, we'll be sure to call you back tomorrow during work hours.

Even my general doctor's office closes at 6, and I work in a neighboring small town, so if I have to pick up a prescription from there I have to leave work 10 minutes early just to make sure I'll get there in time.

I don't get the logic. Wouldn't they get more patients/customers if they stayed open just another hour? Granted, I know nothing about the medical field, but it just seems silly.

Doctors have families too. The real change should be your employer allowing you to be out for various medical requirements without any sort of backlash.
