Real talk how much better is $15 in 2024 or whenever the tiered increase schedule is gonna be than 7.25 right now? Clearly better than not raising it all but not nearly as effective as starting it in 2013 when Democrats thought $10/hr was good enough. Hopefully the final bill when the Democrats take the house has a provision to index to inflation at the very least

To add, I think that a Dem Congress might actually be able to get a lot done with Donald, seeing as how he doesn't actually have any philosophical or political philosophy more complex than "Donald Trump good". His Cabinet is a big problem, but poo poo, look at how the GOP Congress has been able to crowbar him into things.

I had a loving terrible shift overnight. I mean, just miserable. I came home, ate breakfast, lazed about on the internet for a bit, and went to sleep still annoyed about the overnight. And when I woke up, the travel ban was struck down again and there were pictures of loving Macron smirking as he crushed Trump's hand. I feel so much better now.

Even if he drops this Seth Rich thing and manages to survive it it's just a matter of time before he does something else insane and disgusting. This higher profile he currently has thanks to the turmoil at Fox and coziness with the Trump Admin shines a light on all the hosed up poo poo Hannity does on the regular. He'd have to dramatically change his act to avoid more scandals. And I think hes currently proving he can't do that. They've had people go nuts and flame out before. At the end of Glenn Beck the only advertisers he had left were people that bought gold or whatever. O'Riley wasn't about on air content, he just became untenable. I just don't understand where Fox is going to go from here. They've weathered nonsense like this before and done fine. Birtherism was no less baseless and repulsive. These are clearly long knives from the Murdoch brothers. But what do they do? What right wing personalities are waiting in the wings? Tucker Carlson is a ratings black hole. Judge whats her face is just another screaming head. Their base is dying and new right wing poo poo heads aren't going to watch cable news. I really think this is the beginning of the end for Fox News.

The really hosed up reality of the current GOP is that they've gone all in on "winning at all costs". A bunch of Republican Congressmen said today some variation of defense for the guy because he's a Republican. Even the ones who didn't excuse him attacking a reporter or blaming the left or media still came around to "it's unfortunate but I still want the Republican to win.". So yeah, the sad reality is that the GOP will probably do everything they can to white wash this guy's record and insist the voters approved. But I also agree with you that the reality is if he wins in a close race tonight that will mean a massive swing in the Dems favor and leave a very damaged opponent to go after with a better candidate and plan in 2018. And Republicans embracing this guy and what he now represents for 1 vote in the House will probably do more harm than good (even though it will probably be hard to gauge either).

as an addendum to my previous posts, let me just emphasize that quist is a banjo-playing political newcomer with tax problems and a tendency to put his foot in his mouth at the worst possible moments. the democratic party has spent relatively little money on this race compared to its opponents. half of the president's administration have descended upon the state to campaign for their candidate. somehow, despite all these advantages, strategists were freaking out about a potential upset before yesterday's body slam. people should not feel disappointed even if gianforte wins, because this district was not meant to be competitive.

I thought I was one, I had Dan Savage on my phone and listened for years. Then Trump taught me what happens when these people don't get their way. Hopefully this is the proper thread for it, I didn't see any specific threads in D&D for the special election. For those who want to get REALLY into the weeds, here's a "Montana Election Cheat Sheet" from Bloomberg political analyst's Twitter that is a spreadsheet of the county-by-county results of the federal and gubernatorial elections going back to 2012. It also includes absentee ballots sent and received, so perhaps some pregame analysis of where the absentee ballots are distributed and their historical election spread could indicate how impactful they are this time around... https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1KOoM0pSyER-F-yDhSw6FdxS30RlFpWeviIbaa5IrVJc/edit#gid=722392603 CarterUSM fucked around with this message at 02:47 on May 26, 2017 |
