I think technically every strategy game where you don't build a base counts as tactics, so it could be anything from Sudden Strike size to War in the East size.

I was looking at this briefly, and apparently not only can you not pause to issue orders, you can't even pause at all, even with the ESC/menu button. In a single-player game. God, I hate that poo poo. No buy for me.

# ? May 26, 2017 15:23 |

That's because it's not really a single player game. also there's a deployment phase before you start, where you place your first units and can issue some orders ahead of time.

You can also reduce the game to "bullet time" speed in single player, which is so slow it may as well be a pause for most purposes.

It's more the sense that I can't pause the game to walk away/take a phone call/deal with real-life family poo poo. It just irritates me to no end. Same reason I couldn't get into Path of Exile.

No that's a pretty dumb reason to dislike a game, if something important is happening in real life you should just quit the game

That's a sort of valid reason but you shouldn't be getting it for the singleplayer, it's a multiplayer game with some slapped on campaigns. I agree it's kinda weird if they took the pause out entirely though (I haven't noticed personally), that did used to be an option in the older titles. Deceitful Penguin posted:Dark Souls could get away with it because it quit instantly and the online part of it was a cool thing the heck edit: the hell are you guys on about, I just checked in game and escape makes it pause just fine. Hm, maybe they added it in after that thread then, if a dev was reading it. It is only by using escape, the time controls don't give you a pause option they used to in the older titles, which is a little odd.Deceitful Penguin posted:Welp, then I was speakin' from ignorance, my bad It's basically just an RTS. on the more groggy end of the spectrum for those but I'd say it fits in pretty well with Paradox games.

They didn't want you to pause the game so you could look over the battlefield to see what was going on and issue orders, so instead all you can do is slow it way down to give you more time to react. I guess I can see where they were going witht this but it's still a very strange design choice. Opening the menu stops the game but you can't do anything else.

There was a quote from the dev along the lines that the 'AI didn't like being paused'. Maybe I'll just learn to play Graviteam Mius Front instead... bought it a while back and bounced off the UI.

It's a pretty good game and I'm sure if I weren't terrible at it I'd enjoy it even more. The dynamic front system is actually a really neat way of making sure your tunnel vision doesn't gently caress you too much. Would recommend if you're looking for a tactics game.

My committed group of Wargame friends say it's the best Wargame they've made. Like, from the Series Wargame, not Wargame full stop beacuse *snort* it's clearly no Campaign for North Africa...

It is great fun, but if you're used to the glacial pace of paradox grand strategy you'll have a stroke.

Yeah Wargame/Normandy isn't as fast paced as say, competitive Starcraft, but it's still a lot more micro-intensive than a Paradox grand strategy game. It's a lot easier to do team matches since 2v2 or 3v3 allow you to pick one part of the map and focus your forces there rather than trying to keep an eye on everything at once.

Maybe because the game is still new and everyone still sucks.

The goons are friendly and the pubbies civil, but like previous wargame franchise titles and any other ww2 game, the nazis you are fighting are often actually for real Nazis. There is a general chat in game for some reason that is equal parts horrifying and comedy gold.
