You joke but the Blu-Ray of the Matrix has a dumb colour grade that tints it to make it look more like the sequels. I have it on VHS (!!!) and it looks way better colour-wise. The BR looks sickly green.

All I can say is Jay and Josh's review is spot-on, second season is loving atrocious but the last episode is one of the GOAT.
I don't remember really hating the second season. I remember being annoyed with one or two of the subplots (the chinese investors????), or just certain actors a little (I'm looking at you heather graham). I think fire walk with me made up for most of it.

ps. I had to stop reading the twin peaks season 3 thread, I don't understand why people LOVE season 3 especially when it's like inland empire/muholland drive. I'm not saying it's bad but it's not something I can watch and just slobber over.

That scene with Hawk, Andy and Lucy in episode 3 was cringeworthy. Like it felt like the old show, kinda? but everybody delivered their lines slowly and oldly. Seeing totally mind-raped Cooper stumbling around a Las Vegas casino was hilarious though, and I'm in this one for the long haul.

Yeah the Brennan family and Michael Cera's Brando impression was too weird for me. Brett Gelman was loving great as the casino manager though.

Season 3 owns bones and is the best TV in years. 18 hours of new David Lynch material is a blessing.

see I loved the hawk/andy/lucy stuff and got sick of the casino scene because they stuck too long on the joke and the lovely CGI that obviously is lynch doing it himself like a dad who learned photoshop recently just annoyed me. I know it's not lazy or some money scam, it's just lynch being allowed to do whatever he desires and we get this.

I was trying to do a rewatch before season 3 started but I stalled out towards the end of season 2 a couple months ago. Man is it rough. I was thinking of just skipping to the last episode and then watching the new season but now that I watched the pilot (of season 1, I mean) with my husband last night and he liked it, it looks like I'll be doing another rewatch before getting to season 3.

Oh well, it's better to just marathon a show once it's over anyway.

edit: why did I tell you that? Who cares?

Yeah, I don't think Twin Peaks season 3 is something you want to marathon unless you think you can handle an 18-hour David Lynch movie.

Well yeah, I don't literally mean to watch it all the way through at once, but in 3 episode chunks or whatever. It's nice not having to wait week to week. We're doing that with Fargo, Better Call Saul and American Gods and it's always disappointing when you get to the end of the episode and it was so good you want to see another but there's no more to watch for a week.

I did the same with season 2 a while back, which was my first time really watching Twin Peaks. I couldn't finish it with all the freewheeling stories, so I never got to the epic final episodes until this week.

It's 100% fine to stop watching twin peaks after Laura Palmer's murder is solved. They had no idea how to follow up on this plot.

I'm ok with it being goofy, heck that's my favorite part. but it's like there's nobody to tell lynch "no" so we get this really indulgent and poor quality scenes that don't add anything. not because he's an ego maniac, more like he's a senile old man

Yeah, "indulgent" is definitely the watchword with Season 3. There's some really great stuff in there, but there's also just long, LONG scenes of nothing in particular as characters stare at each other with slightly furrowed brows. Ep4 started to introduce an actual narrative and had some pace to it, but up to that point it was a lot of "here's my just-out-of-film-school nonsense 8mm film*.

To be fair I guess the scenes in the Black Lodge will make more context as the series progresses

I wanted more explanation to who was funding the recording of the glass box and is Phillip Jeffries a doppelganger?
