I too wonder where those came from. Looks like the map shows two inbound red lines for that strike though, so they're likely flying out of Efate.

No fighters, but not much improvement. For the love of.... Dammit! I forgot to shock attack the Fijians at Luganville.

A Kill! The Allies finally land another wave of troops. Just as I launch an overwhelming assault. They just like getting the south pacific lot murdered at Luganville. The Carriers should be in range of Tarawa – one last present before they head back for refit.

Flavius Belisarius posted:How did the Allies lose more vehicles than they had? Because it only takes into account vehicles that are fighting. Those "extra" vehicles that were destroyed were trucks or otherwise non-combat stuff, and died along with the unit when it was destroyed. We saw the same thing happen at Chungking a while ago.

Another question about refit: what happens to the air wing when the ships are in refit? Do you drop them on an island somewhere?

More victims come ashore. I get a message about re-embarkation at the end of the day. We are visited by flying death once more. Right in the frozen turkey! I am annoyed by the lack of fighter escort – unless those corsairs are not land based..... The afternoon strike gets past them and ensures another month of trickling kills. I love it when the carriers find a bunch of ships. Let see if we can add to that – with fighter support this time.

Note you can rebase your carrier squadrons to land bases before ship refit so they can run training missing of your choosing. Or just fly CAP to gain experience.

I'll take the easy kill. This guy plain committed suicide. I'm just going to assume these are left from a dead carrier. I sorted my fighters – they had switched to sweep rather than escort somehow. The high seas murder continues. Such a lovely target rich environment. These are the guys from Hankow who are locked to China – their job is to clear the rail lines now. Another good day across the board!

Nice haul of dead supply ships. What are the Avengers doing flying out there? They tend to not be land based - if they were coming off a carrier they'd likely havean escort.

We trade planes for once. Bombs rain on the rapidly scattering enemy ships. Dead destroyers protect my subs. These guys want nothing to do with my carriers is seems. Whoever named their settlement “Mobile” was either an idiot or had a massive sense of irony. The corsairs are much more willing to play it seems. Whoo, landing ships! More enemy troops are sent fleeing. Another good day, and the Kiddo Butai is ready, so I can swap out the forces now. All these lost ships has to have some effect later on, right?

Mobile (pronouced mo-bee-all) is a fairly large city in Alabama. I assume that's what the ship is named after. It is on Mobile bay, which connects to the gulf of mexico, and is currently the production site for the controversial Independence class littoral combat ships.
|
# ? May 28, 2017 18:52 |
Mobile is one of those American names that's a Europeanization (French, in this case) of a native name. 28 May 1943 Italian corvette FR.52 (ex-French aviso Commandant Rivière), sunk at Livorno by USAAF aircraft. The same raid also sank the torpedo boats

Speaking of those, it absolutely blows my mind that shipbuilders are still running face first into problems with galvanic corrosion. Within ten years of the launch of the first iron-hulled warship (HMS Warrior), designs were already being pioneered to avoid the issue. HMS Inconstant used a clever system of wood furring to keep the copper and iron separate - in 1868. 150 years later, we apparently have forgotten these lessons.

LSDs are both cool and relatively rare. I'm not sure how the game would model their actual function though. The Barnett would be a good catch too.

This isn't really the place for it, but those ships are a clusterfuck in a bunch of ways. The manufacturer is currently being sued because they had workers use giant circular saws to cut metal even the though the saw manufacturer says specifically not to do that. It has led to a bunch of people losing fingers/hands/arms, but is faster than doing it the right way.
