If not bee crossbow bolts can we at least add Animal Trainer and point buy animal companions? I want my next build to be a gremlin that fields 3 mediocre war mules, or a dark gnome that fields a strangler that wields 4 beehives.

Stepladders are incredibly deadly because they weigh 300 units. The downside is your fighter becomes incredibly tired really fast from carrying it and moves at a snails pace.

Synthbuttrange posted:Heya Jazzimus, do you have a changelist for the latest version of arena? I don't know all of the changes that affect combat in the new DF version, but here are the changes that I'll be making to the arena raws over the next couple of days. I'll provide full details once they've all been implemented. - Whips and scourges will be strengthened, not sure how just yet - Pikes: reduce attack speed, reduce contact area (more damage through armor), increase mass/weapon velocity. - Modify troll raws so they aren't just a "generic big guy" race. Possibly giving them a massive increase to regeneration and reducing their other attributes. - Gremlins: Reduce toughness/endurance/willpower, but give them even MORE points to spend - Make helms and caps cheaper and reduce their failure rate, to compensate for the fact that fighters will now remove disabled enemies' headgear - Reduce failure rates of armor, to compensate for the fact that armor can now become damaged during a fight - Enable Observer as a purchasable skill I probably won't touch the ranged stuff this first time around. Maybe after running a quick test tournament.

I've uploaded new changes to the raws, so all that's left is to re-balance the points and costs, and we should be good to start a test tourney this weekend. https://arenachallenge.com/dwarffort/df_43_05_arena.zip The new changes to the raws: Whip contact area reduced from 35 to 12, penetration increased from 20 to 24, velocity multiplier increased from 3000 to 4000. Scourge contact area reduced from 50 to 40, penetration reduced from 100 to 80. Pike contact area reduced from 25 to 20, velocity multiplier increased from 1000 to 1250, size increased from 900 to 1000, stabbing prepare-and-recover time increased from 3 to 4. Helm coverage increased from 98 to 99, to compensate for the new armor damage feature and the new removing-helmets-from-helpless-opponents feature. Cap coverage increased from 75 to 80, to compensate for the new armor damage feature and the new removing-helmets-from-helpless-opponents feature. Mail shirt coverage increased from 80 to 90, to compensate for the new armor damage feature. Gremlins: Removed TOUGHNESS+ and ENDURANCE+, changed WILLPOWER- to WILLPOWER--. (they will receive additional points in exchange) Dark Gnomes: Gained immunity to Serpent Man venom. Trolls: Removed STRENGTH+, changed TOUGHNESS++ to TOUGHNESS+, changed RECUPERATION+ to RECUPERATION+++, added DISEASE_RESISTANCE+++

I'd up helmet reliability to 100%, and to move pikes to spear skill. Other than that, I'd like to see how this all ends up working in practice before I make any new suggestion.

my dad posted:I'd up helmet reliability to 100%, and to move pikes to spear skill. Other than that, I'd like to see how this all ends up working in practice before I make any new suggestion. Okay, I've re-uploaded the zip file: https://arenachallenge.com/dwarffort/df_43_05_arena.zip Here is the changelog for the new version, with the new changes since my last post in bold: Game engine upgraded from Dwarf Fortress 40.24 to Dwarf Fortress 42.05. Whip contact area reduced from 35 to 12, penetration increased from 20 to 24, velocity multiplier increased from 3000 to 4000. Pikes now use Spear skill. Helm coverage increased from 98 to 100, to compensate for the new armor damage feature and the new removing-helmets-from-helpless-opponents feature. Cap coverage increased from 75 to 80, to compensate for the new armor damage feature and the new removing-helmets-from-helpless-opponents feature. Mail shirt coverage increased from 80 to 90, to compensate for the new armor damage feature. Reduced base cost of Pikes on the site from 180 to 150. Reduced base cost of Caps on the site from 25 to 15. Reduced base cost of Helms on the site from 60 to 50. Pike skill disabled on the site, and is no longer purchasable. Added Observer skill to purchasable skills on the site, at a base cost of 5 points per incremental skill level. Gremlins: Removed TOUGHNESS+ and ENDURANCE+, changed WILLPOWER- to WILLPOWER--. Dark Gnomes: Gained immunity to Serpent Man venom. Trolls: Removed STRENGTH+, changed TOUGHNESS++ to TOUGHNESS+, changed RECUPERATION+ to RECUPERATION+++, added DISEASE_RESISTANCE+++ Increased base Gremlin points on the site from 1500 to 1650. Reset item point values for testing leagues to use the Armok Arena League values Reset race point values for testing leagues to use 1.5x the Armok Arena League value for starting points, 1.5x the Armok Arena League value for points for reaching the playoff, and 1x the Armok Arena League value for points per playoff victory. ... And with that, I think, it's ready to go. Spermy Smurf posted:Sounds like I should run a small test tournament. Probably 2v2 or 3v3 at first unless there's a huge amount of interest in being part of testing the changes. Jazzimus Prime fucked around with this message at 18:20 on Jun 2, 2017 |

Jazzimus Prime posted:... And with that, I think, it's ready to go. You heard the man. Get in here 3v3, 8 teams, 24 fighters total. Get in while there's room. Double elimination, playoff only bracket, reseeding high to low. Create a fighter, apply for them to join the tournament. And remember, we're testing things, so the dumber the better. Just pretend you're Tunicate when building a fighter.

REMEMBER: In a double-elimination tournament, the advancing losers' bracket teams only get points every OTHER round. Otherwise they would end up with more points than the winners' bracket champion at the end by virtue of having to fight more fights, and that just isn't right. Right?
