cool new Polack jokes posted:I'm kind of amazed Julie Kavner is still doing the voice. Her regular speaking voice sounds very much like the other characters she voices, who all smoke. I'm pretty sure she smokes, too. She was the only major VA who didn't appear when they did "Inside the Actor's Studio" with the Simpsons voice cast because she has a "secret process" for doing Marge's voice, which likely just means she has a killer smoker's voice. Incidentally that episode of Inside the Actor's Studio was as painful to watch as any modern episode. It was literally James Corben and the audience making requests of the voice cast to re-enact popular scenes and howling like baboons because "Oh my god the good jokes are coming from people and not cartoons what a thrill" for like 2 straight hours. Lord knows how long they filmed in the studio.

That was also because it's written into her contract that she never has to do promotions for the show, and can't be photographed or filmed for it. She's an extremely private person.

Or they would pull a Maude Flanders and just kill off every character he voices. Just have some long painfully unfunny sequence of a bunch of beloved characters dying in horrendously unfunny ways. Or just have half of Springfield be a smoking crater and have none of the characters acknowledge it or the missing characters who don't show up anymore.

At this point, I'm sure there's somebody out there who can do a more faithful Marge voice than Julie Kavner.

It turns out that Bart's Comet really did hit Springfield, and every episode since then was Homer in a coma for 23 years.

I decided to watch season 6, it was awesome until I got to the Lisa episode with Bleeding Gums Murphy. The worst part was Lisa singing, I stopped watching about 30 seconds into the song. Fact: every Lisa episode is terrible.

Also Dr. Hibbert hadn't seen it because his thumb has been covering it up for decades and seems to be fine with it being loged back into his brain to restupify him. Thing is, the Simpson gene is a great way to explain the lower and lower quality writing. They just have a horribly brain degenerative disorder that robs them of a fulfilling full life in a predictable and horrific way played for laughs.

When Homer is working at the kwik E mart and sleeping on the job, Flanders acts naughty by giving him exact change and walking away chuckling. Great character moment. All of that is gone.

Lazy garbage clipshows were a problem with US shows in the 80s/90s in general, not the Simpsons in particular. The 138th Episode special is probably the only clipshow of any program of that era that was good (if it even counts when most of the content was previously unseen or on the Tracy Ulman show).

By contrast, these days they're going out of their way to make wall-to-wall nods to contemporary popular trends. It's like they went from being content so snicker amongst themselves over occasional obscure throwbacks to desperately trying to shove in your face the fact that, "No, we're TOTALLY with it! Look, an Uber episode! Apple Computers! WE'RE STILL RELEVANT." Every one in a while they go out of their way to make a joke about some less-than-mainstream internet or geek culture thing, but doesn't have the same flavor for some reason. I wonder if there actually is a difference or if I'm just old and bitter that my obscure throwback references aren't about the 70's anymore. Yeah, if I recall correctly, in the commentaries they mention the clip shows were a thing the network demanded from them, not something they really chose, or wanted to do.

get that OUT of my face posted:always good to see this thread bumped and full of new posts Like the Simpsons this thread will never die. There is always more and it is always worse. It really says something about Futurama that there's really only one season that is generally bad, the one that came out after the DVD specials. Once that speed bump was crossed the show got good again, but most importantly, it actually ended. Even the original run's cancellation finale was great. The writers gave a poo poo which is more than can be said about the Simpsons.

Why are you talking about Simpsons canon Why is anyone talking about Simpsons canon The canon of the show literally does not matter at loving all and is not why the show is bad now or was good in the past You know what made it good in the past? Funny jokes and good writing You know what's making it bad now? Unfunny jokes and bad writing
