I'm on a Swiss airlines flight from Zurich to Johannesburg (10.5h) and there is a loving metal box under the seat ahead of me where my feet are supposed to go. There are no power outlets either. gently caress this gay earth.

I flew to europe a few weeks ago (for fun) on a really cheap fare and decided to pay extra to reserve some decent coach seats. Called up BA, booked 40 window and middle, as I was told that this was the first row behind the bulkhead at the end of the plane. Get in the plane, and the first thing I notice is it's a 747 that looks like it's been smoked in, definitely the oldest plane I've been on as an adult. I next realized the seatmap the agent referred to was incorrect- 39 was bulkhead and 40 was just a regular lovely coach seat. Oh well, just an additional $140 for 11 hours in terrible seats.

BA sucks for many reasons, but they have one of my favorite economy long haul products transatlantic. A380 upper deck is economy with no extra charge with several rows in 2-across seating.Midjack posted:Ahahaha here we go! Potential ban on laptops and tablets. I feel like the terrorists are winning. The Hertz Gold + grab and go means I usually just flash my license at the guy and he hands me a prepackaged key thing. Hertz is probably 2nd in the chain of rental cars in the US (still very good) but I think National is better; National has grab and go, but you also get to pick your own car. It's a system that Hertz is rolling out too, so it might be worth while to stick with Hertz. For me, the FCA car seats (Dodge / Chrysler / Jeep) are hell on my back so it's nice that I can pick something else.

And the ban is going to happen when I am overseas without a checked bag, isn't it?

I just got back from Europe with BA in Premium Economy. I think their World Traveller Plus product is their most competitive offering, and actually quite good! First class sucks, business class sucks, economy class sucks. It's way way way better than AF's PY.

How does it compare to CX PEY?

Mandalay posted:How does it compare to CX PEY? Better, imo. PY on BA is 2-3-2 on the upper deck A380 (what I flew), and window seats also have access to the A380 side storage space so it just feels a lot roomier. You also have two dedicated lav's and can also access the 2 in upper deck Y (though Y pax pretty much use them too). Cathay's 77W's are 2-4-2 and just feel tighter in general. I can't remember how the recline was. Both airlines also have special catering for PY but I felt BA it was closer to J and CX it was closer to Y.

God I loving hate the Atlanta airport so much. loving delta. Honestly If my home airport wasn't Miami I'd consiser flying delta over AA. But I don't wanna connect through ATL for everything. I do like that the Delta flights have power outlets and free entertainment though. But AA means I can transfer to BA.

For some reason, despite my AA status lapsing, I was able to upgrade myself using 500-mile upgrades. I think maybe it was because I had booked the reservation while I was still EP? Either way, it was a nice upgrade and totally unexpected. Unfortunately, AA's new A319 seats completely suck. I had 1F and I think there's more legroom in coach in comparison because of the bulkhead. And the padding was crap, too.

Doesn't change the fact that AA's first domestic product is garbage, but of course those are the seats you're likely to get when mooching upgrades like me (us in general). (1F last week, just happy to have my hot nuts)
