The reformation was needed. The church has cleaned up their act from the cartoonish corruption of that time. But now its forms of Protestantism that's doing crap like indulgences, really divorced from their roots.

Really, what we have today is the best situation for Christians in all of history, at least in my opinion. They have all the diversity of the pre-canon Christian sects with none of the horrible persecution and murder.

From the essay I posted earlier: quote:That is why, to take a famous example, when Primo Levi took his Auschwitz memoir Se questo è un uomo to the major Italian publisher Einaudi in 1946 it was rejected out of hand. At that time, and for some years to come, it was Bergen-Belsen and Dachau, not Auschwitz, which stood for the horror of Nazism; the emphasis on political deportees rather than racial ones conformed better to reassuring postwar accounts of wartime national resistance. Levi’s book was eventually published, but in just 2,500 copies by a small local press. Hardly anyone bought it; many copies of the book were remaindered in a warehouse in Florence and destroyed in the great flood there in 1966.

Examples: I don't have the American perspective, frankly I have a certain respect for the a lot of Protestant denominations since they aren't so caught up with an overwrought church hierarchy and give more initiative to regular people, and like I said if I was taking Theology and studied the bible more seriously I think I'd find basic protestant arguments more convincing. I also went to a Quaker secondary school and it overall left me with a pretty good impression about those guys. In Europe it feels like Catholicism has been much more intrusive in peoples lives over the last century than most Protestant sects while also generally being more reactionary (except in Northern Ireland, where things are much closer to how they are in America to the best of my understanding), that's not even mentioning the horrible child abuse scandals that have swept the church in recent decades, in Ireland that really blackened peoples attitudes towards the Catholic Church.

It's probably because Green is (or was) a popularizer of feminism/social justice to kids and if she is cozying up to pepes, I'm worried a whole bunch of kids are going to think that's cool and fine, and thus the next generation's Overton window shifts. I should probably be more worried about someone like Pewdiepie who actually has a broad audience of young people rather than a youtuber who's heyday was like what, 2012?

She has made several videos supportive of trans people and is not at all a radical feminist of any kind. She's like a textbook example of a liberal or bourgeois feminist (not meant as an insult) who invites kids into basic conversations about bodily autonomy and reproductive health. Even with her bullshit equivocation between mras and mean feminists or whatever, I never got the sense that she was siding with the pepes but calling for civility and a naive but sincere understanding of freedom of speech.

The "Laci is a TERF" thing came about because she used the t-word in a very early video. There was a huge internet shitstorm about it in (I'm gonna saaay) 2011 when somebody found it. She apologised, said she hadn't understood how bad it was at the time etc. Around this time, she claimed that three transpeople with baseball bats approached her in a carpark at night, and threatened to kill her. It's been hard to verify either way, but whatever happened clearly shook her up quite a lot. I really want to be on her side because she was a super important figure to me when I was grappling with my queer identity, but dating Ray Gun Chris is uh ... an interesting development.

What happens when private road A needs to connect to separately-owned-and-managed private road B? As an actual answer to this I could imagine a fast pass system. RFID gates just detect if you're going from one coverage area to the next, deducts funds as needed. Problem is: Right now toll roads are still controlled by governments and the fast pass system works because it's also managed by a conglomerate of states that mandate it use the same tech so that there's no issue using it on a toll road in, say, PA or SC or MD. Without that you'd just have another problem: Private Road A uses FreedomPASS LLC but Road B uses NoTreadPASS INC and they aren't compatible. So the driver either has to maintain a system of ever increasing tags or the Private roads will have to settle on a single system, which won't happen because that never happens when you have competing standards (see that XKCD comic). So TL;DR: The one thing that might make it work just adds another problem to the mix.

Is this guy on the level of Tomi Lahren? If the whole story with him is that he defensively protects white boys because he sees them as unfairly persecuted, he is unfortunately very typical for an American white boy but nowhere near Roosh territory. Again, I'm just going on the above: if he advocates rape or has raped people or something then this is wrong. But if he's just doing the truth-is-in-the-middle dance then he's probably trainable. God knows I believed a bunch of trash when I was 20, which is about how old he appears to be. And a nice white liberal feminist with reservations about "extremes" is a good teacher for a guy like that. It's just as likely that he's learning something from her, like that women are people. Sargon won't ever learn that lesson. Laci Green is still pretty young right, like 22 or something? She was 18 when she started. She has plenty of time in life to keep learning, especially if she goes to grad school for therapy as she apparently wants to do.

Pretty much. Feminist have the insight to seperating their attraction to someone from their faults instead of lumping up both categories into one like incels. It's how there are still women lining up to have sex with male porn star James Deen despite there being several allegations of sexual assault on his part. Then again, this says more about the nature of the pornography industry than about the complexity of sexual attraction.
