You know how there are some movies that people are always like "I saw this when I was a kid, I know I'm probably making this up, but -" and it's almost always Invaders from Mars or The Peanut Butter Solution or The 5,000 Fingers of Dr. T?

This book cover is like that for old sci-fi art.

He's a live action cartoon character that stooges for Fox, if that counts as real. Being that stereotype is his whole gimmick.

Ok, how about this one: a book of ships from a purported war involving Earth and Alpha Centauri vs. Proxima Centauri. It also had like 5 or 6 illustrations of some purported 'mystery ships'/relics.

My school librarian got me into Asimov and Harry Harrison, and had loads of art books like Barlowe's Guide to Extraterrestrials and a few of those other pseudo-realistic alien guide books. That and crashed spaceships.

Isn't Harry Harrison the deathworld guy? That book could make a pretty good survival game.

As a poor porcuswine farmer I

They were funny on so many levels and sometimes it seemed like you were laughing at the characters or even poor old Harry's bizarre concepts of women.

I had to go through a lot of old bookstores to find the originals and they were basically ripping off Starship Troopers if you can believe it.
