It's true. With an Asp Explorer or Anaconda you can fly such that you never have to stop to scoop. Sometimes when I'm heading somewhere I don't even scan the main star because it would slow me down, just honk and jump while I'm scooping.

Babby gets a Conda PLAN AHEAD WHEN DOING STUPID STUFF LIKE THIS / Piracy Prevention Guide So there's a hauling CG in Yum Kuncabi system. The materials they want are bad - military grade fabrics, reactive armour and performance enhancers. Performance enhancers are the best profit, but even they only have like 2k profit per ton. To compare, a boring Palladium-Slaves route will easily net you over 5k profit per ton and much higher profit/hr, with less risk to boot. Normally, I would simply skip this sort of CG, but because of reasons I decide to commit. First couple of runs are uneventful. I run to some outpost, buy 200 performance enhancers for my trade-fitted Python, fly back uneventfully and sell them. A couple of PvP pirates, but no interdictions. Pretty soon I realize that holy hell, I have 350m credits in the bank. So I decide to upgrade and get myself a trade Anaconda. After all, a trade Anaconda trades in volume and I'll fit it with A6 FSD. That means it will provide to be a useful base for Exploraconda or even a generalist Conda build. Anaconda is expensive. The hull itself runs for about 146m credits, and upgrading thrusters etc. doesn't come cheap either. I took the route to Gentil Hub in Harm, which gives a -15 % discount. I essentially D-rated the ship except for FSD, and filled it to the brim with shield boosters, pulse laser turrets and a A4 shield. I had to jump around a bit to get the FSD, but eventually I had my 448t lightweight tradeaconda with relatively OK jump range and shields that could deter a FdL assault. Or could it? The thing didn't actually do that hot. First, 448t cargo is GREAT. It allowed me to quickly rise to top 10 % of CG commanders while still hauling performance enhancers. But issues remained. Pretty soon I figured out the FSD really, really needed a G5 Increased range modification. I could jump from Yum to target without much of an issue, but getting back was difficult. 448t of cargo + smallish fuel tank meant I had either to sacrifice a whole lotta cargo space for a fuel scoop or a tank, driving my profits/run down. Alternatively, I had to stop to refuel. Of course, in retrospect I realized I hadn't chosen the economical route option in the map So back to my home base in DF area, module switching and voilá, a multirole fit the Anaconda. Onwards to Combat Aftermaths and Arsenic grind. About 1˝ hours later I fly to Deciat, install the G5 IR modification and well, now I have the range. Back to work. I like to play in Open, since often the encounters with other commanders are actually either fun or exciting. The obvious pinnacle are community goals, filled with role players, griefers, traders, white knights and other idiots. By now, everyone had already flown to Yum. Instead of maybe one CMDR there and another there, the entire system was now chock full of commanders, flying around, interdicting trade ships, NPCs, wanted NPCs and each other. It was essentially impossible to make heads or tails about anything in the scanner. In addition, my Anaconda was a prime target for both players and NPCs. That meant action. A whole lot of action. Dealing with ED PvP piracy is quite simple but fun cat-and-mouse game. First, a pirate generally likes to hang close to either the CG goal or the nav point. He/she can also prowl the shipping lane between the two. If you can quickly move away from the the star's gravity well and just accelerate towards nowhere, you have about 15 seconds where you are highly vulnerable. This is the phase where you get the idea who is actually after you. After that, you start to pick up speed so fast that the pirate will generally give up sooner or later. After all, they can always wait for the next target while you're running for your life/profits. Therefore, you should not aim to shake the pirate with nice tricks, but instead tire the pirate by simply running in a straight line and as fast as you can. You can even use this as a ploy, doing a quick high waking out and back in, now having more room to evade that particular pirate - instancing, obviously, usually destroys this plan. After this blockade run, you just have to plot your way around the system. I try to approach the CG goal from opposite direction, ready to dive into any gravity well or to high-wake away at a moments notice. The last 50ls or so are also very high risk. You pretty much have to fly by the scanner, constantly changing targets. Once you get a knack for it, it becomes really fun. Eventually you will get intercepted. This is unavoidable, since the pirate knows you are trying to hit a particular station and they can just wait in there. This is the part where you have to assess what sort of player you're dealing with. A pirate who opens comms before or immediately after interdiction is generally someone you can deal with with just a small loss of profit, while a silent interdictor Elite Wanted FdL is Big Trouble. If you do not feel comfortable in playing the interdiction game - and it's a high risk/medium reward game - the option is always to submit and then high-wake to another system while boosting and doing evasive manouvers. You can also negotiate with the pirates, which is usually something like 10-30 % of your cargo. It's up to you to accept or refuse, and up to pirate's personal preferences what happens afterwards. Mostly, pirates who intercept and communicate will be happy just to grab some cargo and talk with someone, and in bulk trading I usually submit and talk. If someone opens fire right away it generally means they're in it for a kill, so you should high-wake and fast. And eventually you will run into funny situations or some really weird stuff. First case. Jumping towards CG, I am intercepted by an elite wanted NPC in a FAS. I submit and then proceed to high wake, while testing some prox mines dumping (doesn't work). In CG area I try the big loop, but it doesn't work this time. Three players interdict me - an Orca, a FdL and a FAS. Crap. I decide to cut my engines and see what happens, because running from them will probably result in pretty hefty hull damage. The players demand me to stop and announce this is act of piracy. They do not open fire, instead scanning my cargo. I feel pretty good about the whole thing and announce I had no intention to run. After all, I have 432t of performance enhancers and losing a few dozen k profits is still cheaper than repairs or rebuy. Whatever. Suddenly, the drat NPC I had left behind earlier pops in, makes demands, bugs out and opens fire. I ask the nice player pirates to kill the NPC so we can finish the entire mugging. They apparently agree, because without the word, first one leaves to kill it.... then the second pirate leaves... as well as the third one. In disbelief, I watch as they all attack the FAS. Soon, they all are about 6km away and increasing range. I plot next system and engage hyperdrive. The last thing I see in my chat are hastily written messages "stop", "do not move" before the high wake kicks in and I leave the system. Got a pretty good laugh out of that. I do not see the commanders again until couple of days later. Second case. Again in Yum, and I'm being followed by FdLs and a DB, can't remember which one. FdL turns away, but the DB sticks to me and finally gets close enough to interdict me. Interested in what will happen, I submit and open comms. What the hell does a Diamondback want? Instead of answering or opening the comms, the DB attacks me. It does this by pew-pewing me with some highly inefficient pulse laser and performing mostly inaccurate mine-dropping strafing runs. The effect on my shields is practically zero. Every now and then it's strafing in circles, wobbling horribly, all around me. I watch the show and try to figure out whether it's playing time or simply testing some build. No one arrives and the DB is not shown to be in a wing. After several of the strafing runs and no comms from the DB I grow bored and deploy hardpoints. The DB is running cold shieldless build. I blast it a couple of times, bringing it down to 80+% hull strength. This does nothing to deter the DB, which continues the weird performance. I decide to carry on with my trading and engage supercruise. After 1 minute the DB is again on my six, again intercepting me, and again not answering any comms. I play the interdict minigame, and win Maybe he was testing a build? Third case: Murderhobos galore. Dropping in to Yum, I hit an instance filled with nefariously named FdLs, FASs and Cutters. A FdL greets me, tells me to FLY SAFE, and disappears. It appears again near Harmony, only to interdict me. Since it had shown interest in comms, I submit and greet. The FdL immediately opens fire. I high-wake, noticing afterwards that the FdL had used some hyperdrive-shredding poo poo that had brought my FSD down to 53 % integrity while not doing anything to my hull. Fourth case: A novice cobra challenges me to a duel over chat. I accept. 90 % hull integrity cuts it off and if he wins, he get's 15t of my cargo. We do our little dance routine. Cobra is filled with Packhounds and does FA off, but still shows a novice rating. I suspect some sort of weird foul play here. Eventually, I win by the virtue of being a big thing. I still give him the 15t of cargo because it was fun. Of course, I forgot to turn crime reporting off and the cops show up. Case five: Two commanders in a wing intercept me. They announce intentions - piracy. I submit and cut throttle. The first commander starts to place demands - and then his/her wingman starts to attack me. "You'll have to excuse my wingman, he's new to this stuff", the talky commander tries to explain, "please stop". Since I'm getting shot by some random dude, I have absolutely NO INTENTION of staying there. Off I go. During my maybe 25 trade runs, I got killed 0 times, badly damaged once by a NPC (got cocky), dodged a bullet once and had several fun interactions with other players. While CG bulk trading in Open is risky, it's also pretty fun, and teaches you a lot with how to deal with pirates and other players. And if you're a pirate - announce intentions and ask for about 10-15 % of cargo and you'll probably get it easier than by force (unless you're doing the hatch breaker limpet thing). I like to scan all-the-things, especially those gas giants, so long-range works really well for me. Not having to get into the gravity well to scan really speeds up my jaunt around a system. Being able to pick up stars from 10Kls+ away is insanity... On the other hand, the speed mod is great if you are doing travel or only want to scan really valuable objects. You can stellar parkour and still grab the main star. With payouts these days, this play-style is worth around 1.5M/kly in my experience.
