Did anybody else read Dougie/Coop calling Dougie's coworker out for lying was the real Coop briefly emerging? I've no doubt it was also Lodge powers, what with the green light and all, but the look on his face and his tone of voice felt pure Dale to me.

He always was excellent at reading if people were telling the truth or not, after all.

The girl who asked for a lighter at the Bang Bang and got assaulted by the guy we found out in the credits is Richard Horne, I knew she looked familiar.

She played the girl birthed from the egg in Under the Dome.

What struck me about that scene - and I yes I'm headed into nutso territory - is the way the kid blinked. It was a weird blink. I watched again to find out for sure, and you can see it at 11:37 (give or take a few seconds). It reminded me of the weird way Laura blinks in Part 2; you can see this at ~16:55. It's like a backwards blink played forward. And from this, I can confidently say, that I can glean no great meaning.

So I stumbled into reading this:

quote:

Well, an interesting observation someone made in another thread is this, the gold ball Dougie dissolved into? It's probably a pearl. After Mike picks it up, he walks over to the formica table, and guess what the bottom of the table is shaped like? A clam. This definitely fits in a roundabout way with what we know.
https://www.reddit.com/r/twinpeaks/comments/6ffur9/s3e5_the_weird_text_message/dii0jrx/

I didn't notice the shape of the Formica table being like a clam, but I also likened the little gold ball Dougie dissolved into being pearl-like. Part of Dougie was vile black energy from Bob. Part was the gold pearl. From Coop? Does Mike need to get that back to Coop to make him whole again? Is that what he means when he tells Coop he was tricked? By entering our plane the way he did, did he lose part of himself, and render himself more helpless and easily dispatched by Bob's minions, leaving Bob the only one of the Coopers who will survive, since one of the two has to go?

I didn't particularly notice the table looking clam like either. When the gold ball emerged it made a humming/whistling noise that I know I've heard in the series or FWWM before, but can't place it off the top of my head. Also, the weird grey thing that also emerges when Dougie dissolves looks similar to the head of the thing in the glass box. Maybe Dougie was manufactured from some sort of other-worldly spirit like the one in the glass box, and was bound by the golden pearl? I seem to remember someone earlier mentioning some sort of similar thing from some real-world mythology.

Edit: Not sure on the timing, but could the grey thing that emerged from Dougie actually be the thing that showed up in the glass box? I guess it doesn't seem too likely, since it is daytime when Dougie gets pulled into the lodge, and it's presumably the night before when the glass box incident takes place. But time doesn't always work properly outside the real world, and it doesn't seem like Cooper is falling through space/in the purple room that long from his perspective.

Nope, not nutso at all. I noticed that, too. They did that last episode with the BadCoop saying "yrev" ('very' backwards) through the glass to the Cole Crew.

The kid's eyes definitely 'closed slow, opened fast' like a reversed blink. I forgot about this until you mentioned it but it hit me at the time.

Yeah, someone posted a couple relatively reasonable anagrams that took all the letters of the family, including Dougie. It's possible that it's completely intentional, but I figure it's a red herring anyway.

Edit:
"My Annie, Josie, Judy - Gone."

The idea being that Judy is the name of the person who David Bowie's character isn't going to talk about. No, he's not going to talk about Judy at all.

I just kind of take the general weirdness of people in this show as a given.

I don't think Lynch would kill off Dougie's family if only because there is way more drama to be had from them living. Tears and anguish from three directions rather than just one.

Started re-watching season 1 to figure out where there are any tie-ins. From the pilot "Diane, I'm holding in my hand a small box of chocolate bunnies."

Also, I just want to say thank you to everyone in the thread for being big fans interested in dicussing whatever sort of ridiculous theories come to mind. I've got a couple friends I've gotten mildly interested in TP, but nobody that is going to listen to my wild speculation and gushing, much less come back with equally ridiculous and well-considered counter-points.

remusclaw posted:

This is actually why I'm so glad we didn't get big 18 episode dump to watch. No matter how good the series is, a weekly schedule will keep it alive and worth talking about and speculating on far longer than would happen for a netflix style show.

Yeah. I really would like to just binge this because I want to know what happens, but realistically, there will be no answers. This will not be wrapped up nicely. And the renewed speculation and discussion is the best part of it all.

I mean, it's not like it would have broken me up inside to watch it all right away or anything like that. And I would have done so given the opportunity. That said, there are bright sides to the classic model of television, weekly anticipation and communal theorizing being some of them.

Seems like the family may be in danger if Coop-Dougie doesn't pay off his debts like he's supposed to. He was supposed to do it that day

I assume the different muscle cars watching Dougie's car belong to different groups, otherwise the guy wouldn't have tried to start the car and blown himself up. Maybe the first group will assume the burnt corpse is Dougie. Is there any reason to believe the second group is trying to kill him?

I figured the second group was just scoping out a car that hadn't moved in a while, and set off the bomb accidentally. Just another in a string of bad people getting screwed over so that Cooper's tracks are covered.

Yeah, I assume they'll assume Dougie's dead, so he didn't have to make the phone call. Dale being shepherded around by guardian angels is oddly compelling.

One of the people I watched the S3 premier with had never seen more than part of the first episode of Season 1. I gave her a very quick and sketchy explanation of Seasons 1 and 2. She seemed to enjoy the first 4 episodes, and thankfully didn't ask too many questions. But she was like me and very accepting of weird poo poo that didn't make any sense.

Edit: I came into Twin Peaks watching FWWM first, before the series. I was very much confused about what the hell was going on, but it was weird and intriguing enough that I had to see the series that led up to it, and here I am.
