Today I made a sailboard and also stole a ship. Tomorrow, maybe I will combine these things. And hopefully steal a faster ship that's not a piece of junk. Also saw some cool islands. Game is beta style janky and there's a lot more dev work to do, but I'm having quite a lot of fun so far with what's there. Cheapest pack buying dollar's worth at least, but in its current state ymmv depending on tolerance for jank, lack of having to gather bear asses for King Arthur, and tolerance for an intense feeling of dread while mining out the bottom of an island with the yawning abyss beneath you just waiting for you to make one mistake while swinging around. E: Deefinitely janky. I've died quite a few times to physics glitches, but it's generally not a big deal. E2: Also the performance issues, which while not crippling are annoying at times. So in case anyone wanted to see what we've been up to, I've been documenting some of our more exciting moments. Last night was pretty intense with the following encounters happening consecutively in the time frame of about 2 and half hours. (I apologize in advance for potato quality and $0.10 editing, some of these battles go long and I had wanted to make them more digestible) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c5-EuPhvkDY And then... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3DQ0sP-Qs9M And before I could even refill the cannons... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6qfkxQWmNKU They got away briefly before... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7zu6JKRFxQI And lastly we got a special double video, one from our perspective, and one from theirs! https://www.twitch.tv/videos/148972929?t=05h37m06s --- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AI-OVv_F-VE And here are some random stuff, like us going through storm and sandwalls. Storm Wall - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sU8_C2LJZ4A Sand Wall - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NRs1gBcx5ys Some random ganking - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xq0nhSTOo7k A dude at the end of his rope - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1r33rZbDDOo

"Twat I swear if you blow my engine with your spleen" Those were some good times, that was when i got stuck in the engine. Game is mad fun. Even with the janky physics.

I just made a run at the windwall in my special snowflake double engine ship and got my poo poo kicked in. The only real drag is the ten minute turn time on ships right now, anything I can do to improve that significantly?

Alright, I'll give that a shot with a rebuild. I think my mistake was using the largest frame and then adding to it - didn't realize handling would be affected so drastically.

If you're aiming for the wind wall, but you don't have higher tier engines and wings, you should do 4 engines and power through it. Even in my 3000 kg ship I get tossed around if my engines cut out.

Not placing the helm at the front of the boat makes a massive difference on windwalls FYI, so if you're doing that you should probably redesign your ship. As soon as I mounted my helm at the back I sailed through no worries.

I think that the wind pushes down on the point the helm is located at, so if it's at the front it's way easier for it to swing your whole boat nose down. First two attempts at windwall I did I got pushed into the understorm layer despite trying to pitch up constantly and died. 3rd one with the same engines/wings but the helm further back I basically cruised through with a bit of minimal turbulence that I could easily correct on the helm. I've seen a few people mention the same on various forums so don't think it was just me...

This would explain why all my designs that are driven from the back always get their nose pushed up and only ever seem to gain altitude in walls. Personally I just design my poo poo that way so I can observe the state of the ship during flight, the loss in field of view is negligible compared to a nose helm and I actually get to know what the gently caress is going on without constantly looking back at the ship.

Ok i'll give it up, those videos were cool to watch. Maybe this gimmick mmo won't be outright terrible!Pavlov posted:He starts poo poo because you said his ship was absurd, then spends the rest of the fight tripping over his horrible ship design. That was the best part. If you're going to build this miniature star destroyer, you better have the numbers and the firepower to operate it, because 3 guys and two guns won't cut it. Compare this to the goon's loving going merry, which had 6(?) guns for 3-4 people in half the size and covered all four sides, you may as well be master shipwrights right now. I will say though that fujimoto looked pretty good. I won't begrudge wanting a nice looking ship in a freeform building game. I'm sure they'll be the envy of davy jones' locker.

They're probably doing buyins only for a while considering how fast the keys keep selling out would be my guess. The last batch sold out in an hour or two at most.

In Discord as Evernoob. I like Space engineers, and some other sandboxes like Ark, but don't play it anymore because I don't like games with instanced servers. I want to be able to compare with everyone I know that plays. I like MMO's, but don't play they anymore because of the Carrot and handholding. (and diminished play time to keep up due to RL) I liked the open sea gameplay of Archeage.... but hated a lot of the other things. I really love wasting hours and hours without meaningful progress, just because I had a wacky idea I just needed to test. I really like EVE online because death and losses are meaningful, but don't get to play it nearly as much as I would like to. I think WA might be a good fit for me. Hope I can get a key soon and maybe not add it to my long list of disappointments.

For anyone who likes seeing our pvp shenanigans, here's some stuff from yesterday. The fastest I've ever sunk a ship - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h8avOjxv_Lo The reason you should never park your boat close to an island in plain view - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IPGoDPGZouk A demonstration of physics - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=unRqgcoUHWw Target practice - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5SGeDSQFHzg What it looks like inside a ship being shot by us - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Xl_q0WJ41Q And a special clip that resulted in angry forum posting - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P9M9BiOMG7I The Forum post - https://www.worldsadrift.com/forums/topic/soapboxie/ -- Some context for this: we had just came through a bad stormwall, immediately after that "physics" video, and I had to dock to make several repairs. While we're docked we're extremely vulnerable and I had to take off several panels and modules to fix everything. One of the guys on the ground might've picked a fight, I dunno, but soon after he said he was killed I spotted this large box like ship skulking around behind me. A possibly hostile ship at the rear of our ship where there is very little cannon coverage, and I had parts of the ship laying around on the ground... that is not good. So I quickly put everything back together and took off as fast as I could.

I made a 1.2t exploration boat out of some stuff I found lying around. I got boarded when I tried to take off, but then I went so fast and turned so hard that the physics flung us both off as we desperately tried to stay attached and get inside the boat. But I'm the one with a spawner. After I get some more light metals and better casing materials it will probably go even faster. Kylra fucked around with this message at 08:40 on Jun 5, 2017 |

Zippy little thing. I'm sure it was <1t, but I never bothered to check. I had to ditch it to go through the storm wall with Cheapshot, so I set it off on a random heading under one sail power only.
