I get that KSA has a very limited ability to project military power, but those are some really warlike demands. I think Saudi, the UAE, Jordan, and loving Egypt could scrape together enough military competence to take over an isolated, neighboring city-state if it came down to it. They better be quick, though, before Iran jumps in.

It's not that KSA is incapable of attacking Qatar, it's that Qatar has no military worth talking about and no real ability to resist. A war doesn't make sense because the Saudis can just make demands and get them, but if we're at that stage then things are seriously pretty hosed up.

But Saudi can't afford to make demands and get all riled up only to back down without sacrificing massive credibility and looking ridiculous, a huge win for Iran. I don't see how this ends well following that list of demands.

President Trump’s son Eric Trump on Tuesday said Democrats are “not even people” to him after their obstruction of his father’s agenda.

“I’ve never seen hatred like this,” he said on Fox News’s “Hannity” Tuesday night. “To me, they’re not even people. It’s so, so sad. Morality’s just gone, morals have flown out the window and we deserve so much better than this as a country."

“You see the Democratic Party, they’re imploding. They’re imploding. They became obstructionists because they have no message of their own.”

oh, this is mildly interesting. John McCain is not a member of the Senate intelligence committee (shouldn't he be? why isn't he?), but due to a weird quirk in the senate rules, he will also be questioning Comey on Thursday. Since he's chair of the Senate Armed Services Committee, he can insist on being a non-voting member of the intelligence committee able to attend hearings. He doesn't usually do that, but he will for Thursday.

I expect him to be alarmed and deeply concerned. This time he won't have to cast a vote that questions this status.

Thats actually comforting. Enough serious people have told Trump that this was an extreme, epic fuckup that he's now forced to (privately to save face) get everyone to cool off.

Unfortunately, the KSA may conclude that Trump will never admit to being wrong and invade anyway..... but thats also risky because Trump may immediately pivot to condemning KSA and refuse to acknowledge that he ever said anything negative about Qatar. So, they may have to back down to some settlement thats agreeable to everyone.

Remember that report a little bit ago that Trump had gone underwater with veterans and service members? This exact issue is the thing that drives that. Many/most veterans have spent time interacting with locals overseas and have done so with much more tact and reverence for differences than the loving President has. Moreover, most have seen good and bad leadership.

This stands out.
