Valerian looks neat and I really hope it's good because high sci-fi is something that's sadly underdone.

If it tanks it will be another 7 or 8 years before someone touches sci-fi. Poor sales on John Carter killed it last time. Hopefully Guardians has kinda rejuvenated the idea of "fun poo poo in space".

Sci-fi isn't really toxic at all anymore The new alien movies, Interstellar, Guardians of the galaxy, Star Wars have all done well and they're all in their own niche of sci-fi

The people that made that game must have been so embarrassed when they realized they forgot to put in graphics but it had already shipped.

John Carter of Mars tanked hard due to a combination of poor marketing, rebranding, and a lack of faith in the project by Disney due to the perceived social stigma against big budget science fiction that isn't called Star Wars.

Here's a hot take: If Wonder Woman had been directed by a man, literally exactly the same movie shot for shot, word for word, it wouldn't be getting the same level of praise. Discuss!

Finally saw GotG 2 and it was good as hell. Alot of the designs and visuals were just spectacular, and felt more Moebius than Marvel at times. And I wasn't expecting a big summer comic book movie to make me feel stuff, so good for James Gunn on that. Since they're making Valerian they need to make a World of Edena movie so I can get my weird agoraphobic french fetish clowns going insane from face rot.

John Carter sucked not because sci-fi is toxic. We have had some very strong showings with the likes of Gravity and Interstellar.

Valerian looks closer to Jupiter Ascending. Doesn't matter if it is like Jupiter Ascending in quality. It LOOKS like that kind of movie that audiences have little interest in.

It's a Luc Besson movie. It will either be really amazing or completely suck but have it's own charms see; Transporter with the opening scene where he goes over his rules and car porn.

Wait, I take that back. Transporter ruled. I was just remembering the trash sequels, especially the one where the Russian lady kept throw herself at Strathem to the point it was just degrading to both parties. I felt gross watching that.

A lot of the old sci-fi stuff that Star Wars cribbed from has really kind of been undermined as movie IP, because even if it came first, when you put it on screen it's just going to feel like poor man's Star Wars. It's kind of like Fantastic Four. After The Incredibles borrowed and perfected the premise, nobody really needs an actual Fantastic Four movie ever again.
