I did find Kamala Harris' line of questioning pretty funny.

"I was a prosecutor so I know how these things go..." Proceeds to ask a bunch of sensitive questions that Comey can't answer in an open forum.

Firing the FBI director because you don't like him, or you think he's bad at his job, or because you think he has a goofy face and wears cheap suits are all fine and legal.

Firing the director of the FBI with the intention of stopping the Russia investigation is obstruction of justice, and is a Federal crime. A sitting president can not be prosecuted for a federal crime because he's the president, but he still broke the law. There are just no legal consequences while he's in office. If he were impeached and not pardoned, he could then be prosecuted for it.

Right, but intention is the key word there. If Trump says "I fired Comey because I don't like how he handled the Russian investigation" (which he did say), that's still perfectly fine.

Comey phrased his testimony purposefully. Whether or not the Republicans actually do anything about it, Comey put quite a few more pieces on the board justifying obstruction of justice if not other issues.

Pelosi is excellent at the job of whipping votes. Politically she seems like a net negative, but pretty much 100% of voting is based on 1) Tribal identity and 2) Opinions about the president. So, it's debatable whether anyone else in her shoes would be any better at the "get/keep dems in power" part of the job.

Nobody bases their vote on their opinion of the personality of the Speaker of the House.

The only "bad" thing Pelosi has ever done for the Democratic caucus was pressure Democrats in vulnerable districts to vote for Cap and Trade. That was a great thing and the Senate totally screwed her over on that after they assured her that they vote on it and she rounded up the votes.

She got the House in line for a public option, national Obamacare exchanges instead of state exchanges, Medicare buy-in and let the most vulnerable members take hall passes, but still get the bills passed.

She is very good at her job.

The Democratic Caucus in the House has never been a roadblock for Progressive reforms under her leadership.

what you need to do to obstruct justice

1) take an action
2) with the intent that action interfere with an investigation

the action can be something entirely within your authority and completely legal without the corrupt intent in (2)

Testimony had the expected impact on the few brokebrain trumpers on my FB wall:

quote:

Comey is a freaking idiot puppet... fired for his inability to do his job when it meant investigating the "hand that feeds him" ... and now crying sour grapes like a disgruntled employee.... lmao !!! I'm just waiting for the "but he started it" like a kid in front of his parents!!!

quote:

First Comey broke the law making his July speech because that is not his job and he protected Lynch, Clintons ect. They called for a special prosecutor but HE said there was no case. Now he is saying he was in fear of Trump. What an absolute joke. Double Standards is amazing.

That's what she wanted. And she wanted to let him know she knew what it was. She just wanted to get the questions answered like that for the implications and to let people know what she was gonna ask in a closed session.

That was the goal. It gets a lot of those questions into the public arena and on people's minds and Comey for his part won't definitively say no. whether or not that is actually the case. Plus the Republican lines of attack had been shut down by that point.

So I missed the last hour of Comey testimony, but to sum up, it sounds like the anonymous reports we've been hearing about in the news on the firing and Flynn were confirmed, Mueller's probably got a lot going on behind the scenes, and the conservative response is that KC Green "this is fine" cartoon?
