It was legal. Sorry for your loss. If someone can definitely prove intent to kill the investigation totally, there would be a case for impeachment, which congress sure as hell won't do. The president can't be indicted.

The Article link you copied from Reddit but didn't read posted:

Could that cover asking the F.B.I. director to drop part of an investigation, and later firing him?

In theory, yes. Such statutes were broadly drafted. Julie O’Sullivan, a former federal prosecutor who now teaches white-collar criminal law at Georgetown University, says the power relationship between a president and the F.B.I. director could elevate a request to shut down a case into an act that amounts to impeding an official investigation.

“He really needs a lawyer,” Ms. O’Sullivan said of Mr. Trump in May. “He is building a beautiful case against himself.”

lol you're an idiot

quote:

Did Trump have lawful authority to fire Comey?

Yes. But courts have ruled that otherwise lawful acts can constitute obstruction of justice if done with corrupt intentions. In a 1998 case, for example, a federal appeals court upheld the conviction of a lawyer who had filed legal complaints and related motions against a government agent who was investigating an illegal gambling operation. The court ruled that the defendant’s “nominally litigation-related conduct” was unlawful because his real motive was “to safeguard his personal financial interests” in the corrupt enterprise.

Multiple Republicans asked him about the Lynch-Bill Clinton airplane conversation, and how that affected Comey's October announcement. Also, that Lynch encouraged Comey to refer to the email investigation as a "matter," rather than an "investigation." I think that last bit was new.

The transcript blows away any doubt of his intention.

Did he say that, though? I don't think he said anything new, Trump himself already said he fired Comey to get rid of the Russia investigation and nothing really happened after that. Comey didn't utter the words "Trump committed obstruction of justice," so I strongly believe that non-Democrats will not care. The public won't hear a sound-byte saying Trump obstructed justice, so you can bet they won't think anything major was said in the testimony, and the Republicans are already stating that this was no big deal, and I don't think it will be to most people.

I hope Mueller got better information, because I don't see this changing anything.

I like the double-edged sword that the GOP is haplessly swinging around: that Comey should have told Trump that what he was doing was unethical because he's too dumb to know it, but also that Trump wouldn't have fired Comey to stop the investigation because only an idiot would think that would succeed.

So we're supposed to assume that Trump is too ignorant to know the relationship between the president and the FBI, but that he would know the relationship between the head of the FBI and ongoing investigations.
