https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RDnISxqqrdY Virtual On. So if you go to Japan, and check out any arcade, chances are you're gonna see entire floors or sections dedicated to Gundam related games. Since everyone couldn't get the license to make Gundam stuff, you had things like Virtual On which came out. I remember seeing this game on occasion at some arcades as a kid, and they even ported it to the Sega Dreamcast. I don't really know why they ported it, since the Dreamcast didn't have two joysticks, so it was stupid as poo poo to play. Anyhow, check it out.

I played this game on an arcade a few times and I remember it quite fondly, the double joystick system was pretty good. To be honest, this kind of robot-jox style game coupled with the fancy cabin was like nerd catnip for my teen self.

It's a neat one. Probably another to throw on the pile of games to revisit once we know how to play it. I recall a number of robots having some slick moves beyond the standard "big ol' laser" camp of specials, and it really added some interesting variety to game play. Perhaps our "tenebrous first steps" model of Let's Play should be suspended for fighting games in the interest of entertainment value.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qd4ze-WVun8 Alright, this is coming up WAY early, because I am time hosed today. Our beloved Data East has returned, and they do not disappoint. I seriously don't comprehend how they were able to make so many bizarre and great games. Did someone on their dev team gently caress a witch?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wMnDkQTMGMc Jesus Christ, why are holidays a thing? I get all confused when people are home on a Monday and completely forgot about that fuckin' thing I have been doing every Monday for like a year. Anyhow, it's Roadblasters, which was requested by our very own Danger Pumpkin. At least, I think this is what was requested, apparently there are two games called Road Blaster, one by Atari and the other by Data East. This is the Atari version, and likely the one that Danger was referring to, but you can never be sure! Perhaps next session we'll pull out the Data East version. . . Even though it's a dreaded Laser Disk game. AMovieReference fucked around with this message at 19:49 on May 30, 2017 |

Road Blasters is the game played on American highways during Memorial Day weekend when people have finished remembering our fallen soldiers through piles of hamburgers and games of corn hole, but have subsequently forgotten that it is illegal to operate a vehicle after you've rendered yourself near-comatose with grilled meats and cheap beer. The winners are those who make it home without an insurance claim or a DUI.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WkJMNIzpHn0 So we accidentally clicked on this game and it turned out to be fun, so we played it. It's one of those horse poo poo "If you die, you restart from the beginning" kind of games, but it has it's moments.

Sorry about that. It's Rampart. We've actually attempted this game before, but some parties were having issue with understanding the concept so we had to shelve it for a future date.

I feel like Rampart could be a mini-game that takes place between rounds of a larger game and fit right in. Maybe a mobile app. Charge $0.99 for extra cannons. In fact, stop reading this while I call someone who can program this and find a suitable mask to hide a cash-induced permanent grin.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1RkqUEDjbBI Alright, so this game has a few names, but the version we played and know it as, is "Princess Clara Daisakusen." Apparently, we learned that these are part of the "Fighter Instinct" series of games, which includes the "Groove on Fight" game that we played on the show before. So that's weird bit of canon I didn't really expect to learn about this game.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mPFa9DEAILo Well, I done dropped the ball, but not in the way you might think. I had a job today scheduled from 8am-12pm, plenty of time to get back and throw up the episode. Long story short, I can't decide whether I like or dislike labor unions. Anyhow, Domino Man. A game that makes me wonder if we should have at least one person learn how to play these games before we boot them up, so that we have some semblance of competence. Usually we all go in blind, so our reactions can be raw and authentic, but this leaves us unaware of key features of the game. Oh well, we've admitted to being bad at our jobs in the past.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fNDR2RRtDKU Mug Smashers, is a game. Apparently it's also another game, better known as Combatribes which it completely ripped off (apparently?) We'll probably eventually play that on the show at some point. But this one is interesting to say the least, the map that it shows is confusing as it seems to be anywhere between San Francisco Bay, and the Ivory Coast of Africa. It's anyone's guess.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w7MNgTo7rZY We somehow managed to play two requests by Rollersnake this week. We play Karnov's Revenge for H2H. At this point, is there a genre that Data East hasn't done, and absolutely killed? Besides Bega's Battle, I mean. . .

Glad you guys enjoyed that one. The Fighters History series gets a lot of poo poo for being a Street Fighter ripoff, yet people tend to overlook that it's a great ripoff, to the point that it feels like Street Fighter 2 with a completely new cast of characters. Also instead of someone like Akuma for its super secret hidden boss, Karnov's Revenge has... an ox.

Following the logic that Karnov apparently gets more hideous with each new rendition, a modern Karnov model would be a Stygian nightmare guaranteed to make your stomach turn and your connection with humanity to be cleanly severed. Also, you can charge his fireball for more damage.

In this PS4 release, will you ultimately be challenged to a frisbee fight by a raging bull? Or an octopus, or some other animal that shatters the game world's cohesion? Because Rollersnake's revelation makes me think that's a great cherry to top off a lot of games.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lk8jHNP9T5E Dig Dug II. This is actually more enjoyable and interesting than the original Dig Dug game, and I can't believe most people never really knew about it. The Ayskerbhundy (sp?) and someone else on the youtube comment section actually requested this game, but we'd already done the episode when the other guy threw in his two cents. We've been experimenting with MameHub and looking to do more episodes on a regular basis to have faster reactions and such, and possibly even have more guests (I don't know if you guys like guests or not). So hopefully that works out. We've been practicing some fighting games so that we stop looking like jackasses when we play them. Also, next meet up session to record is gonna be 5July-9July, so if you got some requests, throw 'em on out. I'm sure we've got them written down, but can always make sure.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ExQSpEsJYms A weird thing we've been coming across recently is the fact that a lot of the games we've been playing are in the same "universe". Princess Clara was part of the Groove on Fight/Power Instinct universe. Apparently Lethal Crash Race is part of the Aero Fighters/Sonic Wings universe. Which makes sense, since the characters are super wacky.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8wmqOK4i2UY This is coming up early because people prefer things early rather than late, with the exception of child birth, family coming to visit you, and waking up. If you remember in the early 2000s, along side when you played Ragnarok Online and Runescape, you may have seen a game called "Gunbound". This is pretty much that game, but in arcade form. If you don't remember that one, it's pretty much just "Worms".

Viewing it after the facts became known, there's a hidden layer to enjoy when Kyle said Lethal Crash Race is "like the racing version of Sonic Wings" during the video. I would also like to publicly applaud him for brushing past the low hanging fruit of a premature ejaculation joke in the post for Fortress Blue 2. You are now legally recognized as an adult.
