in any other time a sitting president accusing the (recently) former head of the FBI of perjury would dominate the news cycle for MONTHS

we're in such a loving wacko dimension that editors are going "'trump accuses comey of perjury' is the best we've got? slow news day."

i honestly just cannot get used to this sort of poo poo

also how on earth could a law firm still represent this man? him going under oath would be absolutely the worst possible thing right? what the gently caress is wrong with trump's brain that he thinks it would end well? what hand does he think he's holding?

As bad as I'm sure he'd loving lie through his teeth while in a hearing, I don't think it could possibly make him look any worse than he already does. The best it does is increase Democrats' chances of taking the House and holding firm in the Senate.

Trump directly saying Comey lied is actually a much bigger deal. Republicans can't get away with justifying his behavior now because one of the two of them is lying. Trump didn't just not know better: he did it and lied to the public about it, or he didn't do it. So either Comey, the guy who is honest to a fault to the point of admitting to the Senate that he leaked his memos, or Trump, the guy who ordered his press secretary to lie on his very first day about very obvious facts observable with the naked eye, is a liar and they're going to be asked which one. That's, uh, not a great spot for them to be in.

You always knew he was going to accuse Comey of lying, though. We all knew it. And of course Comey's telling the truth of his account. Why else would he constantly respond to 'THERE MIGHT BE TAPES' with 'Ahaha, god please yes.'

We did, but I'm sure his lawyer, Paul Ryan, and Mitch McConnell all desperately hoped he'd forget, and all know he's lying. But they don't want to admit it.

Trump under oath is a loving treasure.

quote:

Q: Have you ever not been truthful?

A: My net worth fluctuates, and it goes up and down with markets and with attitudes and with feelings, even my own feelings, but I try.

Q: Let me just understand that a little bit. Let’s talk about net worth for a second. You said that the net worth goes up and down based upon your own feelings?

A: Yes, even my own feelings, as to where the world is, where the world is going, and that can change rapidly from day to day. Then you have a September 11th, and you don’t feel so good about yourself and you don’t feel so good about the world and you don’t feel so good about New York City. Then you have a year later, and the city is as hot as a pistol. Even months after that it was a different feeling. So yeah, even my own feelings affect my value to myself.

Q: When you publicly state what you’re worth, what do you base that number on?

A: I would say it’s my general attitude at the time that the question may be asked. And as I say, it varies.

I think the better explanation is that the media won't ever use the word liar, unless reporting on someone who did. So by saying it himself, he gets his statement reported accurately.

Option three is that they're actually stupid enough to try to release partial tapes or in some way destroy evidence. I don't think we can rule it out at this point considering how colossally bad their legal strategy has been.
