The Republicans would NEVER allow it. The openly racist part of the GOP isn't going away, it's here to stay. It will be a factor in every GOP presidential year at least.

There's also a number of people who still want straight-up independence over statehood. It's basically a situation where all three options (Statehood, independence, and status quo) enjoy varying amounts of popularity, and thus far nobody's been able to convince a majority of the population to change the status quo one way or the other.

How many reps would Puerto Rico get immediately with statehood? 6 or so?

The number of people that want independence are overwhelmingly small. Its all divided between Commonwealth (status quo) and statehood and the trend in the last few elections is that more Puerto Ricans want statehood, people are protesting the "bad" options by not voting, and by doing that they are spoiling the results somehow.

If DC and PR were admitted to the union, it would immediately place 4 Senate seats permanently in blue hands. That's why Republicans oppose it.

This whole thing is interesting as Presidents were scared as hell about potential conflicts of interest and constitutional stuff. Obama sold all his stocks, Carter was forced to sell his peanut farm. Donnie just doesn't care.

Nothing will happen, but the real fascinating thing is the amount of case law on this particular constitutional subject: absolutely loving nothing.

On top of that, it's completely unclear how the Supreme Court would enforce this kind of thing. Donnie could easily tell them to gently caress off, since he's the organization owner, so maybe they'd have to go after the underlings in the organization? Or would similar companies have the right to sue the Trump Organization into oblivion? Who knows?

You can't really judge-shop like that because you have to prove that you have Standing, basically proof that you are the one harmed by the action. That's why the Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) can't just say "I am suing the President because I want ethics in government and he is harming me by being unethical" because people would sue the government over absolutely every little thing in that case.

That's why the CREW lawsuit has a bunch of hoteliers and private businesses on the lawsuit that are in direct competition with the Trump Organization to prove that they have standing. In this case above, DC and Maryland are claiming they have standing because of the Trump International in DC eating up the Saudi/Kuwaiti meetings and stifling competition throughout the state, or some argument like that.

It's actually worth watching the hearing because Sessions is real dumb and will probably contradict both himself and his boss multiple times.

He first lied to the Senate during his confirmation.

It later came out that he lied so he recused himself from the Russia investigation and amended his statement to the Senate.

In his testimony last week, Comey strongly implied the FBI was aware Sessions was going to recuse himself weeks before he actually did it AND strongly implied there was more going on with Sessions than could be discussed in an unclassified setting.

It then immediately leaked from the classified session that there was another meeting with the Russian ambassador that Sessions didn't disclosed.

So the FBI is aware of poo poo Sessions did, Sessions has now lied twice to the Senate (including after having had a perfect opportunity to fully correct the record and didn't), it's leaked to the press, and now he's going to testify to the Senate again.

He's unlikely to finger Trump over anything but he's in the poo poo up to his eyeballs.
