I think the deal with splitting Texas is that the Republic of Texas and the United States had an agreement under which Texas would be able to do that, but that an agreement with a country that doesn't exist anymore probably isn't binding, particularly with the Civil War in between now and then. They can split, but only in the same way any other state could.

Schindler poses as the reasonable one, and he is more reasonable than Mensch, but he's just about as quick to accuse anyone who disagrees with him of being a Putin stooge. He even accuses other Russia conspiracy theorists of being on Putin's payroll sometimes, though he's been pretty chummy with the famous ones like Mensch (while stressing that he doesn't agree with everything she says).

From my admittedly limited anecdotal experience, Puerto Rico's main export seems to be teachers. Perhaps their best and brightest fleeing the island to teach our most needy students is good, but... maybe there's a problem here.

Because congress won't help them while still having jurisdiction. Or in other words, they wouldn't be this deep if they were a state. Traditionally PR votes against statehood, but either they are part of our country or not and if we make them call DJT their president then give them equal status and fix it.

as a native South Dakotan I would urge you all to consider merging the plains states into east/west of the Missouri River

East-River is flat cornfields and retiree Republicans who watch Fox 24/7
West-River is rolling hills and grazelands for cattle ranching, full of retiree Republicans who watch Fox 24/7

e: also if you are East River you probably talk at least a little bit like Sarah Palin or the movie/TV series Fargo

if you are West River you don't, but might affect a southern drawl for authenticity

Even aside from the break with human decency, I suspect that clip's going to be passed around in the Middle East for years as "evidence" that the US is sponsoring terror groups, and not just by people sympathetic to Iran. The thing that's totally inexplicable about it to me is that if he actually believed it was true, and was pleased with it, why the gently caress would he say so in a public hearing? That sort of gives the game away. I don't know if he's a moron, has mental health issues, or if there really is something inappropriate going on with him (the FBI had to warn him Russians might be trying to recruit him in 2012), but no matter what the reason, he very obviously shouldn't be in Congress.
