There were already two different groups of people complaining about it being premiered during the NBA finals game.

One group was "Why are you making me watch basketball to see this as soon as I can? The basketball demographic doesn't care!"

And another was "Marvel so racist for debuting the "black superhero" during the NBA game and using rap music for the soundtrack!"

Agreed, but it is likely to become A Thing as the movie gets closer to release and gets larger coverage from non-comic centric sites and news. I'm honestly surprised Fox News hasn't thrown a shitfit over the poster yet.

I was pleasantly surprised by how little there was for Wonder Woman. Unless a theater does a black-only screening for Panther.

It seems to depend on what corner of the internet you hang in. I've seen surprisingly little furor over anything about WW other than the whole Alamo nonsense. But the way that the RLM review put it, it's like they were inundated with sociopolitical chatter from every direction about every darn thing.

(Though...like, no shade...but they do seem like the sort of folks who might be oversensitive about that stuff, on both sides)

Just got back from Wonder Woman screening, thought it was pretty rad. I wasn't really bothered by the Ares fight. I mean, I do think it would've been better without, but at this point I've accepted that all superhero movies must end with a big dramatic CG fight, so ultimately I'm cool with it.

The only real problem I had was Ares' death. Like, okay, the movie addressed that people are the real fuckups, but it also has Ares say that he gives them ideas for exciting ways to gently caress up. And then he dies in World War 1. So I guess every other weapon of war was a human original creation? Good job, Manhattan Project, you didn't even need a Greek god to help you build that bomb! I don't know, I think it might've been better/made more sense if he was somehow banished or something instead of being outright killed. Of course though, it is a comic book movie, I suppose there are always cop out ways to bring him back.

Some pacing issues aside, a really well made movie I'm glad I finally caught.

Saw Wonder Woman, agree with everyone that it's very good up until Ares goes Dark Souls. Not sure I've ever quite seen so many athletic women spinning slo-mo through the air. I like how the whole movie is people telling Diana what to do followed by her ignoring them.

Ended up impressed by the scene on the boat with Pine and Gadot - it could have easily been super embarrassing, but the actors have so much chemistry that it comes off as really charming and funny. The bits of gender-swapped Donner Superman are a great choice too.

Saw Wonder Woman with the fiancee and she loved the movie (and for some reason really loved WW theme song).
I thought the movie was excellent, even if the final bit of the movie strayed way too much into a "join the Dark side" moment, making me very glad they didn't turn Ares into WW's dad. For the most part I didn't actively hate the final boss scene stuff, though it was definitely the weakest part of the movie and I wished they could have done something a bit more interesting with it instead of making it as generic as possible. I did enjoy the hamming it up but honestly if they left Ares out of the movie altogether it would have been just as good.
The high point of the movie was the no-man's land sequence, and seeing WW get out of the trench for the first time revealing her costume was just such a "gently caress yea" moment. I also really appreciated that we she did the whole no man's land thing she wasn't so over powerful that she ended the whole thing herself, but rather gave the other soldiers enough time and courage to fight on. That was a nice call to her being inspiring to others.

One final little nit-pick we had though was Chief (even the name is a bit cringe-worthy). In Canada we are taught and made aware of native populations and both my fiancee and I took Aboriginal studies in some way or another so Chief felt like a character that could sadly stray a bit too much into the stereotypical Native American portrayal. Glad that they gave him a little bit of characterization though that made him a real character, but the character could have been done a bit better.

One last thing, I thought Gadot was excellent in the movie. She managed to give a nice warmth to Wonder Woman, had great chemistry with Pine, and played the warrior princess (though a bit too naive) really well. For some reason the scene where she sees a baby for the first time really made me smile. I'm really glad that she worked well in the role, and that the movie is getting such good press and buzz.

Say Watt?

I really enjoyed the movie and I did not have a problem with the ending/third act like most people seem to have. The killing blow in particular was great because it was a) a callback to Zeus' attempt at killing Ares b) a reflection of Ares' blast meaning he kind of died by his own hand and c) it was a move that used her gauntlets, more iconic and definitely cooler than a sword or shield. And the part where she goes berserk on the soldiers? Hot drat, that was like something one of the Kryptonians in MoS would do, but far more fantastic (and much more emotionally charged, of course).

I did really like that Steve Trevor wasn't just A Good American Soldier, but specifically a spy, and you actually get to see him spying and sneaking around throughout the movie. They could have easily just made him a generic square jawed GI Joe but I liked his little bit of espionage. Especially seeing Diana completely ruin it.
